The problem I have with that is that Phil Kessel has nothing to do with what was given up in the trade, a trade should have no barring on how you evaluate a player(s), that's for the GM to be evaluated by. This trade was 3 years ago, move on, evaluate Phil Kessel on parameters that he can control.
Move on?
Wait a tick.
Folks that hated the trade got told, wait ,wait you can't judge the deal till you see who they draft, then it was wait, wait we gotta see what those picks look like in the the NHL IF they ever make it,.
NOW! that we are starting to really see what Boston got, we get told get over it, that was so yesterday?
If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing. As quoted in Listening and Speaking : A Guide to Effective Oral Communication (1954) by Ralph G. Nichols and Thomas R. Lewis, p. 74
he needs to step up, other than the first game he hasn't done anything. Missing shots, unable to control the puck. If our 'best forward' isn't playing up to par you cant expect the team to win.
the minute burke got canned ......kessel was on the hot seat ......and im positive nonis argued the price and the contract were absurd ....now keesel hasto be paid 6-7 mil a year .....hes goneeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Hey you guys know who Kessel reminds me of a lot so far this year?
Matthew Lombardi - lots of speed - skates down the wing - shoots into goalies chest - runs off the ice!
In all seriousness Phil just needs to get his hands a little dirty - if he would just drive the net and start fighting for some space in high traffic zones he'd be dynamite. If he can't do that or doesn't want to then we better get him a true POWER FORWARD to play along side and help create some open ice. Right now he's just getting doubled teamed - and forced to the outside on every opportunity.
It sucks that we traded what would have been 2 franchise players - for a guy that needs to have a great supporting cast around him to succeed. When evaluating PK its important not to be so fast forgetting what we gave up to acquire him. But lets try and focus on how we can get the most out of him while we have him.
So you think Phil is crap for what he's done this year but Hamilton is a franchise player in your mind.
This is hockey, sell high.In one year Kessel walks for nothing.Nevermind Burke,he sold our azz to Boston and will never have a job again. After this year,Kessel will have no value, sell now!

From a strictly offensive standpoint (because that's the only thing Kessel is good at), Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton (and him alone) combined have twice as many points than Phil Kessel.

Great trade Burke.
5 games. Great sample size. Want to comment on Phil getting 82 points last season?

Burke should be a GM within a year or two and Kessel will walk for nothing? Ever heard of a trade or a contract etension offer?

Inflated point totals because of Ron Wilson's system and at the expense of the line playing solid defence (which is why they were a minus despite scoring the points).
Kessel will probably settle back down to his usual 60pts/82games under Carlyle's system and without Lupul for a good portion of this season.
For the first of many years to come, I believe Seguin and Hamilton will outscore Kessel.

IMO
LOL you keep beating this drum. Tyley Bozak was his centre! The worst #1 centre in the entire NHL. You're making the statement Kessel had a big advantage last season?
In 10-11', he played with AHL linemates and still got over 30 goals, 60 minutes. Terrible argument.
If he played in Pittsburgh's system with Crosby and Malkin like James Neal does, boy would his point totals suffer!
You do have a bit of a point, i mean all Kessel does is skate down the wing and shoot from 35 40 out most of the time. Even if he is snake bitten, drive the net, screen the goalie do the dirty things. This is why Kessel is one dimensial on many occasions he is afraid to do the dirty things. He just skates around and floats around, drive the net kid do the dirty things and you will get rewarded guranteed.
Kessel is useless against teams with size. Just trade him and get a good return. Sign Perry in the offseason to replace him. He'll be much more useful.
