Simon Desprès for Chris Stewart, St. Louis has a lot of depth at the forward position (with wingers). They could use a two-way defenseman like Simon Desprès.

This summer, Stewart is a RFA. BUT, so are Petro, Shattenkirk, Cole, Russell, and Berglund. The team budget is going to force a move of one or maybe even two of those six. With their system depth up front, I think they'll be looking to move Stewart for a guy like Despres and something else . . . something that won't break the budget.

Only way, IMO, they move him during the season is if Stewart ends up back in Hitch's doghouse or they're getting an affordable impact defenseman coming their way.

So has St Louis.

I'll put it this way . . . IF STL wanted a top four defenseman and were willing to part with Stewart and Cole, then I'd think they'd want Orpik, something along the lines of TK, Orpik, and one of the defensive prospects (thinking Maatta) for those two.

But, I'd shudder to think of the reaction to that here.

so next year, something along these lines?

Stewart-Crosby-Setoguchi/Bennett
Setoguchi/Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Kunitz/FA-Sutter-Dupuis
Glass-Vitale-Sill/Grinder

Niskanen-Letang
Martin-Cole/Dumoulin/Morrow
Bortuzzo/Dumoulin/Morrow-Engelland

I understand the parallels between the Despres and Goligoski trades, but I believe they are different situations.

1) Neal was younger than Setoguchi

2) Goligoski was older than Despres

3) Goligoski was a UFA at the end of his contract, Despres will be JUST EXITING his ELC at the end of this contract.

4) Neal was inconsistent, but on an upward trend point production wise, when the Penguins acquired him. Setoguchi's production is going backwards.

5) I *believe* Neal was an RFA at the end of his last Dallas contract, and I *believe* Seto will be a UFA at the end of his current contract.

Penguins are going to need to find a way to have good players on good contracts if/when they re-sign Malkin and Letang. Part of that comes from guys like Despres, who will likely be in the top-4 by 2014/2015, but on cheap contracts.

So, I don't have a suggestion for who would be better than Seto, but I do think highly of Despres skill, age, and contract.
I do not understand why people don't see this logic. Seto "could" light it up with the Pens but so could Despres become a Top 4 dman and we have control of him for a much longer time.

I watch a lot of Eller being from Montreal and the guy on the wing when used is totally useless. He's a centerman

Eller is worthless on the wings. Third line center with second line center upside...so a non-starter in an discussion for us.

Which sucks. I want a Dane on this team, damn it.

won't be enough unless that roster forward is Kunitz or Neal. Minnesota is über high on Clutterbuck.

He's expendable for them. They want a guy who can be a big part of their D corps moving forward. Despres fits the bill.

I don't see TK being a part of our future. I think if any roster forward goes in a significant trade, he's gone.

Clutterbuck brings alot of what we could use on the forecheck right now. He is capable as a third wheel in a scoring role. Has the skating and defensive ability to play with Sid.

If we can get Seto and Stewart, then Sutter could use him. Screw Perry, i like my lines. More depth. But these lines will be for next season as i can't see us getting Stewart untill the off season.

I really can't see Orpik ever be traded, to be honest, but if there were a good fit for anyone in this league, it'd be Orpik playing next to Pietro in STL.

Making a thread in the main trade board about our need for wingers, just to see what the response is from other fans. I'll make sure to link this thread because I stole a couple of players on the big board into my thread
