You couldn't have a thread easier to be biased in, but really, not a single vote for Blues? 0 cups since our start in 67, still fill the arena every night and tv ratings some of the best in the US.

Nothing to show for it.

As a city for all major sports though its Buffalo for sure. Poor guys.

Nobody thought of this but I would say Québec. They pretty much always had sellouts even if they were the worst team in the league in their last few years in Québec. Then, as the Nordiques were becoming a powerhouse, they moved to Colorado and won the Cup the following year. That's harsh!
Now they've had false hopes about getting their team back for the last few years (although I do believe they will get the Nords back eventually).
Québec is definitely my vote for most undeservedly suffering fan base.

I would like to nominate all the teams that at least didn't have a chance to play for one.

Toronto doesn't fit this criteria to me.

CBJ, Atlanta/Jets, Nashville, San Jose, Phoenix.

When they get a team they'll be on the list.

Well then what I'm failing to grasp is why Edmonton fans are suffering more than Columbus fans. It hasn't been a full decade since the Oil were in the cup final. The memory is still fresh. They've been the given the hope of a much brighter future with a great scouting job on Eberle, 3 first overall slam dunks, and Justin Schultz not being able to bring himself to play for the team who drafted him.

Let's take a look at Columbus fans. Lost the face of their franchise. Repeated failures at the draft. Lost their all star game. And the biggest thing they can be proud of in their history is having MADE the playoffs. And even that isn't a good thing to brag about as they were swept clean. Their fans have been waiting patiently for their time to come. The oilers fan base at some point got to cheer for the greatest team this league has ever seen. And if they weren't around for it at least they can boast about that legacy. Columbus has NO legacy to speak of and they still stay loyal. How any fan base can claim to have suffered more is absolutely beyond me.

I'd say the Nordiques fans. Had a decent team in the mid 80's with the Stastny crew, was horrid for years after then drafted Sakic and Lindros, only to move a few years later with that team immediately winning the Cup. That's tough.

How can some of you guys feel bad for fan bases that draw "crowds" of maybe 8000 for a league game, or ones that are only as old as some of my socks in my sock drawer?

I feel bad for the ones that sell out every game, and have to pass their season tickets onto their kids, and haven't won a Cup since most of us were born.

St. Louis and Minnesota have Buffalo's sympathy since we're all hockey crazy places that haven't won it all

First and formost I just wanted to say that Oiler fans are no comparison to any other team on this matter. We have been blessed to have the 80's and hopefully will be again in the near future.

As for the question who is the most undeservedly suffering fan base; my vote has to be Atlanta. Having lost not one, but two teams must be unbearable. I truly feel sorry for them.

I think the "most undeserving" of suffering are Buffalo. but really no fans "deserve" to suffer.

The Jackets are a close second. Their fanbase is rather smallish, but fiercely loyal. I think it takes a high level of dedication to be a hockey fan in markets that not only have no historical or environmental ties to the game, but have large segments of the population that are adamantly and proudly anti-hockey. fans in these markets help sell the game. Then on top of it they have to hear about being a bad market, and that their team should be moved. how is that the fault of the fans of the team. If it can be blamed on anyone it would be the non-fans of the area, not the fans. All of this is on top of following a team that has seemingly done everything wrong in its history, with misses from the draft, some poor trades, and then losing their one bona fide star, due to the forementioned problems. Then on top of that they lose the lottery, and though 2nd pick is no chopped liver, it doesn't carry the excitement of getting first overall. next they lose their allstar game, and may be waiting a while to get one back.

The Jackets fans need a break, they deserve it.

Leafs fan don't deserve to suffer, but due to their voting against every Canadian expansion, the organization deserves the bad karma. Again that was the organizations decisions, and not the fans.

PS: Pocklington was every bit as bad, unethical and criminal an owner as Ballard.

No thanks. Buffalo already had the Clippers and sent them to you (via San Diego) as that franchise was originally the Buffalo Braves. I think the Bills will prefer to stay in a market that has shown it supports an NFL franchise.

Considering your counterparts on this side of the water are hurting even more AND they've never won a cup. not to mention having to live in the shadow of "the crown jewel" is enough.

Plus the adjective is undeservedly. Don't know if I can classify anyone more than the city of Buffalo with that one. Amazingly they respect their sports more than most and have been tortured in both sports major sports.

I'd say the Winnipeg Jets fans. Hardcore and loyal fan base had their beloved team taken away for 15 years.

You described it perfectly. Maybe if Leafs fans would've refused to blow their money on a bad product, they wouldn't be in the situation they're in now. The Leafs are basically a company that takes in a ton of loot regardless of the product they provide. Why would they pay more in costs if they're milking you guys already?

I feel worse for Buffalo about the early 90's Bills. That really sucked.

Most deservedly suffering fanbase - Toronto. They support the team to the hilt and te owners know that. So thus they are not motivated to make the organization better.

Most undeservedly suffering fanbase - while a lot of teams have lost for a long time, the teams mentioned here are still there, still drafting, still trying to make things happen. Unlike Phoenix who might lose the whole team, let alone havin to worry about what spot they pick in the draft.

If that upsets you, Roger, then answer me this: would you bet on the Leafs winning a Cup before the Oilers as they stand right now?

No one would.
Lol. They have young stars, they don't have depth, don't flatter yourself.
