I want Monahan soooo bad.

I think he will be selected behind Jones, Mackinnon, Barkov and Drouin, so 5th overall is where he will probably go. I think that will be out of our range, depending on the lottery.

I predict we do not have a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft.

I dont agree, I can't see Tambo trading it away. I am with a lot of guys when I say that we should not be drafting anyone under 6 ft. I know you should take BPA but we are just so small.

No question, this team needs size, but say Drouin is still on the board, do you pass and draft for "need"? I'd say that would be hard to justify. Like MacKinnon, Jones and Barkov are gone.

At that point I explore trade down options, or draft Drouin and put him or someone else on the block.

If those 3 are gone, I take Monahan and don't look back.

That being said, I don't consider tht drafting for need over BPA. Monahan is the better all around player and can physically dominate the game. Drouin is much more offensively gifted, but I have them pretty close, at least IMO.

For me, I'd love one of Barkov or Monahan. Even if we don't pick in the top 5, I think moving up from 6-10 wouldn't be that hard with one of our 2nd round picks. All depends how teams see these guys.

@dantencer Oilers scouting staff in town for a couple of days of meetings. Boss Stu MacGregor has a major focus on drafting a goaltender in June.

Hmm...

Doesn't necessarily mean taking a goaltender high. I'd give Fucale a look in the 2nd round and then Comrie (well, pre-injury), Martin and Jarry later on.

Pouliot lesson should have taught us about the BPA.

Hopefully they're looking in the 2nd round and later. There aren't any goalies worthy of a 1st round pick this year imo

With 2 second rounders this year that would seem logical.

Zadorov and Nurse would be exactly what we need in the back end. Both are huge guys that can log a ton of minutes and add some nasty to the back end. Having said that, I think the organization is very high on Musil, Klefbom and Teubert.

i double read that as well as first time it seemed as if he was saying pouliot was bpa, which clearly wasnt the case, im sure op meant that drafting need over the available skill was the mistake we learned from.

I dont want to end up with JF Junk type guys but Monahan would be perfect for us, im still high on Lazar as well.

Hey guys, here's whatI think would be a great draft for the team if we dont land in the top 10 picks.
1st round pick: Lazar/ Pulock
2nd round picks: Kujawinski and Fucale/Jarry/Comrie

Other than that idl what the orher rounds would look like.

Other than Monahan, Barkov, Lindholm, Lazar. Which centerman interest you the most and like to see in Oilers silk?

I've gotta say that mine are: Kujwanski, Gauthier, Klimchuck, Petan

Connor Hurley sounds interesting.

Minnesota high schooler who sounds like a Derek Stepan type center. The youngest player in the draft with his birthday right on the cut-off.

Can you tell a bit each of them, do they project to be 2C or more 3C.

As far as Drouin or Monahan I think I would go with Monahan, the kid is big, won't get as many points maybe but is more suited to our team.

Thats perfect because apparently this draft has been touted the year of the goalie.

I"m not sold on Lazar as a top 10 pick.

Always go BPA, we can always trade people if we have to.

Or imagine a world where we can actually develop our rookies in the AHL, Eberle style.

Yeah, I think it goes to Colorado when we offer sheet Ryan O'Reilly.

Of course, we'd have to get out 3rd rounder back.

No way Pulock falls out of the top 10. He's a properly special blend of size and skill. I hope we get him though. He'd be absolutely deadly on our PP with that cannon

I'm not sold on him as a 1st round pick TBH. I like him, and honestly hope he ends up with Edm, but it'd have to be from trading up our second to a 20-30 range pick, or if we do awful as a high pick in the second round. I think he'd make a great 3C for Edm, but he doesn't warrant picking over a lot of other players.
