I would prefer Hayes or Smith up over Shaw. Both are better net presence pp options and Shaw needs to start playing like a guy that needs to earn his spot night in night out.

Over 82 games...41 points and 205 hits. And those hits aren't all Troy Brouweresque hits. There have been some big, noticeable hits.
Now everytime I see him I'm just going to remember him going fave first into the goal post

Not to mention, this team's third line is not always playing against other teams' best line, like it used to with Bolland. So that is helping them.
...then he's not in the NHL anytime soon. He's a defensive liability at this point.

What's nonsense about that?

Hayes has six goals in his last seven games.

Mayers and Shaw have looked useless. I think he deserves a callup. Can't teach size.

Shaw can stay up, but get him off the 3rd line and PP

Solid lineup. If they were to call up Pirri and move Shaw to wing:

Stalberg Pirri Shaw
Bollig/Bickell Kruger Frolik

It looks like Shaw is just better suited at wing. last year he had 23 points and 82 hits in 37 games. Idk maybe he just needs more time, but he's been pretty ineffective at C so far

I'm liking the idea of Stalberg Kruger Frolik though

You just said it. He's a defensive liability. Why is he on the team if he is a liability on defense. Shaw may not be perfect but he would be fine as a 4th line winger on this team. Kruger has earned 3C on account of his defense.

If Pirri can't play defense then what is point of bringing him up? No reason in breaking up the lines that are working. At least Shaw throws hits and skates better than Pirri. Just don't get where Pirri fits on this team now.

Hayes has been terrible in Rockford this year and isn't Smith hurt for a while?

Hayes has been on fire since the lockout ended.

Smith has a lacerated wrist or something. Should be back in a few weeks.

Well, it's an expression. It's like saying "this is as good as it gets" when a situation is not really as good as it gets.

Jammer is Mayers and Hammer is Hjalmarsson. This is important stuff to know.

Frolik has been awesome this season. I've been a proponent of shipping his ass off. Couldn't have been more wrong. He's an awesome option in the bottom six.

Put Kruger on the 3rd line with Stalberg on his right wing. Stalberg plays better on the right side regardless that he is listed as LW. I don't mind keeping Bickell on the 3rd line because Bickell and Stalberg seem to have some chemistry, but I wouldn't mind Frolik on that line either.

Bickell-Kruger-Stalberg

or

Frolik-Kruger-Stalberg

Let Shaw play C/RW on the 4th line - center when Mayers is not in the lineup and RW when Mayers plays 4C.

I don't want to say that he's slow and dumb, but his skating is a bit labored and his positioning tends to be suboptimal.

Wow.

Crawford has been great, but what about the defense? This is the deepest defense we've seen in a long, long time. IMO, a Leddy-Roszival pairing would be a decent 2nd pairing and that is our bottom pair. Then you factor in Montador and Brookbank as 7th and 8th defensemen and wow. Montador is a top 4 dman on some crappy teams IMO when healthy and he is probably our 7th dman. As long as Oduya continues to play the way he has this season and Leddy continues to show his improvements defensively than I am really happy. So much to those who said he hasn't made any strides defensively and is a pylon. He is 21 years old for ****s sake, most defenseman are in college or the AHL at this point in their careers.

A big thing I think for Leddy is that he is no longer on the PK. That HAD to kill his confidence because he was so brutal and the fact that he was even in that position was embarrassing for coach Q. Especially considering that even when Montador was health, Q still had Leddy out there getting burned on the PK. He is small and not great defensively. His best assets are his skating and transition game and neither is a big factor on the PK. His biggest weaknesses are strength and defensive awareness which are two of the biggest needs to be a good PKer. It was completely baffling why coach Q continued to put a square peg in a round hole ALL FRICKEN SEASON. I saw from the first couple games that Leddy clearly wasn't good on the PK even though I love the kid's game. I can't expect a 20 year old offensive defenseman become a shutdown dman over the course of a season. I am glad Stan addressed the situation with signing Brookbank, Roszival and getting Oduya last year to force Q to get him off the PK.
Great post!

As a fourth line wing that plays on the pp. Soft hands, tell him to stand in front of the net. He doesn't, we find somebody else who will.

I'm actually fine with Shaw. Mayers needs to grabs a seat in the press box. He was horrible at CBJ and DET. I rather have Bollig in the line up with Mayers cheerleading.

All I really remember him doing offensively when was here before was drive the net and play in the crease. That's all he'd need to do this time too.

Fortunately, he seemed pretty good at that.

Shaw and Brookbank need to keep each other company in the pressbox. Why Rozsival is sitting is beyond me. The guy has been great for us and he's supposed to be our 6th d-man.

Would also like to see Hayes here, but don't mess with success. Rozy does need to play over Brookbank. I assume Q is just switching them out to keep Rozy fresh for the playoffs.

My belief is that Q has got a set number of games that Rozy will play to keep him fresh for the playoffs. It would not surprise me at all if that number was only 30.
