Not sure if sarcastic, but if he was that adamant about playing with his brother, he would've left last year.

That plus him and his brother both are signed to the same UFA period. I personally wouldn't be opposed to signing Gionta when his deal is up or trading for him next year. I'm leery about adding cap this year especially when we don't know how much some of the resignings will cost.

I guess we can assume that if Gionta is acquired, Tallinder is going the other way, so it's really only absorbing 1.7 million.

Observations

Defense
-Salvador with absolutely horrible
-Fayne was somewhat ok, terrible on the Gallagher goal.
-Tallinder again wasn't noticeable but in a game like tonight that was a good thing
-Volchenkov go to ****ing puck clearing school and take the team with you
-Greene got screwed on the penalty call but was having subpar game anyway
-Zidlicky, open up a bakery Mr. Turnover

Offense
-Kovalchuk no luck at all tonight, at times his skating looked kinda slow
-Zajac played pretty decent, needs to shoot the god dam puck though
-Tedenby, as much as I like him, he's not for this team muscled off the puck too easy
-Josefson after a great game Friday, he was responsible for one of the goals but I saw a physical side of him I never imagined I would see
-Elias one of three/four offensive guys who played well
-Clarkson, still can't skate but somehow manages to score absurd goals
-Zubrus, great on the PK and ES
-Matteau, wtf happened to him?
-Bernier, Carter,Gionta really brought nothing writing home about tonight
-Cam doesn't even warrant anything

the jake looks tentative, like hes waiting to get railed and doesnt want to be. i understand why at this point, but it sucks. luckily, his defensive ability is getting better and better. so as long as hes preventing goals and getting some helpers, i dont care if he score 5 goals a year. hell put it together tho. hes too good not to.

Yes. Wasn't that impressed. He made a few solid plays with the puck and he was reliable defensively. Big deal. He had a breakway where he just shot it into the goalie, I'd like to see him actually finish chances once in a while. He has 3 career goals. Stephen Gionta has been more effective so far

I think the issue is more with our forwards than our defensemen. The Devils are spending too much time in their own end largely because their forwards are not adept at keeping the puck in Montreal's end.

Carter - Gio - Bernier is a fourth line, nothing more. They should not be getting the ice time / matchups they've been getting, but unfortunately we don't have the depth right now.

So basically your entire measure of a guy's effectiveness is his offense, wonderful.

Yes, YaYo needs to produce offensively eventually to be anything more than a fourth-liner/Vlad Zharkov type. He's still like three years younger than Tedenby, who people STILL want to keep running out there, and actually does other things to help the team without scoring, unlike some other guys currently in the lineup.

Agreed, although I thought he was impressive Friday. People compare Jake to Elias, but I just don't see top 6 potential in him yet. He looks like he could develop into a very good 3rd line center (solid defensively, with some offensive flare), but I don't see where people get the idea that he's a top 6 center. I've yet to see it in any of his stints in the league.

He did some good things without the puck on Friday. Tonight, he cost us a goal, but since his name isn't Tedenby he wasn't benched (that's a different discussion though).

I just think Josefson is overrated on here. Yea, he's a good prospect but so far he looks like a bottom six player to me. I like his defensive zone play, and he's very good on the PK, but where is the offense exactly? Some people pencil him into the 2C spot - I just don't see it. Look at what Henrique did with this team and he had half the time to do it.

Josefson is only 21. Where was patty when he was 21? Not dominating the NHL. By no means do I think he'll be as good as patty, but I think he has top 6 potential. Can't slap a label on him that early.

I do worry that YaYo is more Zharkov than Patty (someone we're all muttering about how he does 'everything' but can't score), but it's too early to make a final determination either way since he's never had 'extended' time in the NHL in one season because of all of his injuries.

First.... please come back Henrique!!!!!!

Second, Lou needs to acquire a forward. The D pairing of Tallinder and Volchenkov was garbage. Get rid of either of them, put Larsson in the lineup, and get a forward!!!!

Matteau is definitely getting sent back to juniors.

The fourth line NEEDS to be the fourth line!!!!

Call up Butler.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY waste a freaking roster spot on Janssen or Barch against a team like Montreal?!?!?

Josefson hasn't proven **** offensively in this league. His gaffe tonight was a rare one though. It happens to the best of them. Happens to Patty, happened to Clarkie the other night. Happens to Marty sometimes. Josefson hasn't had line stability either. Much of his minutes come from the PK which he's excellent at. He's been starting games centering the 4th line for the most part.

He's also decent at faceoffs. This is why a player like him can be a nobody on the score sheet, but Tedenby can't.

Josefson has to be more clinical in his finish but it doesn't help the fact we've given him plumbers to work with.

Essentially, this.

He knows how to move with the puck and without it, so long as he's not overextending himself making up for two non-events on his line. Everytime they cut to him on the bench, he looked like he was ready to keel over.

He's also being moved up and down the lineup halfway through every game. When Henrique comes back and the depth is a bit less of an issue, hopefully he can stick on a line and form some offensive chemistry.
Given how good his hockey sense is, I think the finish will soon follow.

Of all the people in the lineup to be ragging on, picking on Josefson is grabbing at straws.
Everyone can play a little better.

One more forward for that 3rd line and let Butler stay in Albany until/if someone is injured.

Doesn't look too bad, then. It'd be nice if that forward could knock Zubrus and Clarkson down a line, but it's not terrible if they slot in the 3rd line.

That honestly looks better to me then what we rolled out there tonight. Definitely still want another forward to replace either Darche or Butler over the long hall, but I think I could live with that lineup for a few weeks. Just get Tedy the hell out of here.

I'd rather Clarkson on the 3rd line as well if we had the depth, but he has shown he can hang in the top 6 so I am definitely ok with that. I do agree I'd like to slot Zubs in the 2nd line, but not the end of the world having him up top. Just something more dynamic on the third line to not only add more scoring from that player but to give JJ more to work with. Also getting CBGB back as the 4th line helps things out a lot better. As a 4th line they add a ton to this team, its just a matchup mess with them as the 3rd.
