I thought the same thing. Some would argue Semin couldn't or wouldn't do it but he seemed good. Sure his faceoffs may hold him back but he could go out with Beagle or Laich.

I think you are on to something. While he may not be the shot blocking type, to be honest, I rarely see anyone else doing it.

I had thought we should use MJ there for the same reasons MP may be good there.

I assume MJ would have more value, but what about MP instead of MJ in trade rumors? He also posted fine numbers last year.

I feel like Garth Snow needs to agree to the trade too for it to go through.

You're making my point for me. Hard to slam a guy who gets extremely limited ice time.

I realize he's only 20, but in what world is a kid who couldn't crack the Islanders this year and has a grand total of 3 points in 64 career games worth Perreault+, let alone Johansson? Nino has potential, but he's done very little to indicate he's capable of translating that potential into NHL success.

This. Much rather trade Johansson in a package for O'rielly.

Perreault won't fetch anything close to Niederreiter just because the Isles ****canned one of his seasons, get real. Pacioretty didn't have a smooth sailing to the show either and look where he's at now. Niederreiter will be more or less a Swiss version of Patches. Thornton's first season was 7 points in 55 games. This kind of **** happens all over the place. If we brought Forsberg over this year and stuck him getting 8 minutes a game with Hendricks and Beagle and he had a crap season, does it make sense to trade him for Andrew Ebbet and a 3rd all of a sudden?

No one wants Perreault as anything more than a placeholder or depth.

Johansson (+) for Gunnarsson and Kulemin? I do have a huge mancrush on Kulemin but it's totally warranted. He'd be the missing link to getting Ovechkin and Backstrom working effectively again. Gunnarsson is pretty good himself and if he can work with Carlson while Alzner works with Green that hole will finally be closed after 8 ****ing years.

Ovechkin Backstrom Kulemin
Wolski Ribeiro Ward
Chimera Laich/Perreault Brouwer
Hendricks Beagle Crabb

Alzner Green
Gunnarsson Carlson

Not where I'd like it to be but at least looks pretty legit on paper.

I think it would be Mojo+ just for Kulemin.

The way they are playing now possibly, but I could see Nonis deciding he has a ton of depth on the wing (both NHL ready and Biggs/Ross/Ashton) and Johansson enticing as a 2C option.

Kulemin would be amazing on this team.

Yeah, Kulemin would be great. Solid 20 goal winger with defensive awareness. I can see him pop in 25 regularly on Backys wing.

Are we seriously writing off the past two year's Johansson's career because of the first four games of this season?

mojo being a little lost right now doesnt mean he remains lost. he's a kid. as for nino bob mckenzie said last week that nyi wont trade him. have no interest in trading him. they just want him to develope at the ahl level more after over doing it with him at the nhl level last season.
think karl alzner a bit. nino doesnt like the bus and is whining. islanders stuck by their guns on nabokov. they stuck by their guns on lubo. they are not going to cave on nino.

ror....isnt he asking for $5m per?

Apparently. And now Ryan O'Reilly and his career high of 55 points is worth more than Mike Ribeiro in a trade. Plus, paying him $5M a year is seemingly desirable.

It's message board trade rumors... I'm surprised no one suggested ovechkin for ROR yet

Lots of young players struggle. That doesn't mean you jettison them at first signs of poor play. Its to be expected and you have to be patient.

I've seen Mojo play 150+ NHL games. I've also seen him start out very poorly. How soon we forget he was a healthy scratch due to poor play at the beginning of last season.

4 games at the beginning of a season are meaningless. Ryan Callahan has 1 point and is -4 in 5 games. Mike Richards is pointless and a -3. Chris Kreider is pointless and a -2. Should those guys be written off?

Except it's not the first sign of struggle from Johansson. The warning signs were there all last season. He is physically and mentally soft. Both of those are preventing him from being an effective NHL player. That's why he is getting benched, it's not just because the offense isn't there.

He had an extended offseason to address his major weaknesses, and came back with no improvement in either. That's not a sign of someone developing into a NHLer of value.
