Summer comes along, Bergevin offers bridge contract, McDonaugh refuses, back to square one.

I just think it'd be funny giving up Subbie-doo for a player we already drafted/had.

Would he dare offering Galchenyuk a bridge contract? They better make sure he doesn't pile up stats right?

the problem is a lot of GM's started paying players based on potential it never used to be that way, Bergevin is from the old school show me what you got then I will pay you, to me PK asnt shown enough that tells me he's a lock, heck he had the PP to himself last year and only managed 5 goals, although his defensive game was much better then advertised. He could be a lock but will he fit in with the mentality they are trying to instill, its not just about skill, the willingness to belong to a team concept is even more important with the skillset he brings.

Subban isn't asking for being paid based on potential that's delusional. He's asking for a fair paycheck for the season he just had, which would be quite good for any dman regardless of age.

I don't quite understand where it came from that PK isn't a good teammate and can't buy in to team concept. They asked him to work on his defensive game. He did. He has won 2 gold medals. Why am I hearing now that he's a poor teammate? This is why I wish the players didn't make comments about PK...joking or not.. because the media runs with it and the fans feed off the media. Look at what Gionta said about PK and how it has been twisted. That comment doesn't even get mentioned in any other city.

Can't help but see a huge difference on how the vets on the team treat the two Gallys this year.
Quite a sharp contrast with PK's first year with the Habs.

We finished 29th he had 30 something pts with #1 minutes thats not spectacular, over 100pim and maybe 1 fight, what are we paying him on exactly, it must be potential cause I havent seen anything that warrants anything close to $5 mill a year.

If the 2.5-2.6 millions rumors are true and PK signs for that amount. We can't question his loyalty for this team.

if he does sign for that much, we'd better pray he loves being a Hab, cuz if not he's going to bolt the first chance he gets.

Why should his loyalty be questioned in the first place?

His contract status is totally independent from his loyalty to the team...

He's a RFA. He basically can't bolt. Habs own his rights. There's no need to pray right now.

Stop acting as if you are an UFA PK!

Seriously, I so want to see him play for Therrien.

Drew Doughty: Eight year, $7M per extension.
Erik Johnson: Four year, $3.75M per extension.

Only one of those players are better than Subban. Guess which.
I would add:

Tyler Myers: 7 years, $5.5M per cap hit
John Carlson: 6 years, $3.967M per

And then the counter-examples:

Dmitri Kulikov: 2 years, $2.5M
Michael Del Zotto: 2 years, $2.55M
Jamie McBain: 2 years, $1.8M
Zach Bogosian: 2 years, $2.5M

Ekman-Larsson and Pietrangelo are going to be significant new entries this summer. In the top list, not the counter-examples list.

In general, I think the Habs are undervaluing Subban's statistical comparables if they are putting him in the second group instead of the top group. There are slightly more examples of the top group... which to me makes sense, teams should *want* to lock up their top young players for as long as possible, and any UFA years they buy at a lower rate while the player is still getting better are going to be a sound investment in the long run. If you can get a guy to sign on the counter-examples list, great for you, but it seems like risky asset management to really go to war pushing your guy onto that list to me. The potential loss (young core player) outweighs the potential gain (couple million dollars on the cap), esp. for a wealthy building team IMHO.

What he means is if PK accepts this offer he's ready to get paid less to be a Habs.
That can be considered loyalty. It's not a bad thing
