No, but there's still a ride open at Force India and Caterham. Doesn't look like he'll get a spot though

Very unlikely I read somewhere he's kind of given up trying to get

Similar situation in Marussia as Caterham had with Kovalainen; driver seat opening for a driver bringing in money. Vitaly Petrov, maybe?

Marussia confirms Timo Glock's departure

yeah I don't get it. He belongs in F1 in my opinion. Probably a lot has to do with team marketing decisions, somehow thinking he's no good for them in that sense? Because it can't be because of his driving.

Not good enough to get a seat without paying for one. Simple as that.

"I've been following F1 now for basically 12 years...and...wait ....drivers can buy themselves into a team??? Wtf?? "

You don't have to pay a guy to drive for you when he's already getting $12 million per year from a petroleum company. It's been happening in F1 for decades.

Pastor Maldonado probably would never have even sniffed the exhaust fumes of a Formula 1 car if he wasn't essentially backed by the Venezuelan Government. Just having him as a driver supposedly nets Williams about $70-$80 million a year.

Uh yeah it happens in F1 and every step of the ladder up to F1. Midfield teams that could use help with the budget aren't going to turn down a competent driver with one to bring.

Kobayashi was lucky Toyota got him into F1 that ended up with 3 more seasons at Sauber.

Guess I've been pretty oblivious and naive all these years towards this aspect of F1. Never been one to read much into the sport, just watch the races. But I guess it makes sense that it's all about sponsorship in a sport like F1.

Eh, kind of a no brainer. Most of his career was spent testing for McLaren, providing solid feedback is what he's known for and what he's best at. Ferrari have always had a veteran in that kind of role; ie Badoer, Gene, Schumacher, Fisichella.

How do you think M. Schumacher got hold of his seat at Jordan for the Belgian GP in 1991? Eddie Jordan desparately needed cash and Willi Weber offered the Irishman £ 80.000, which he gladly accepted. Schumacher qualified 7th for that GP and got picked up by Benneton for the following season. The rest is history.

It's a shame those small teams have disappeared though. Jordan, Prost, Tyrell, Minardi, Arrows, Stewart... Those were the days.

Actually part of them still lives on the current teams (in theory)...

Jordan -> Force India
Tyrrell -> Mercedes
Minardi -> Toro Rosso
Stewart -> Red Bull

Obviously it isn't the same thing though.

I know. F1 and cycling are the two European sports that have something that resembles a "franchise system".

We could go even further back in time.

Ligier -> Prost
Footwork > Arrows

I guess lol, like I mentioned I've always just kind of tuned into the qualifiers and races, then usually just turned off and switched to either soccer or hockey type thing after it's done...never really delving much into anything else about the sport. Also there's about a 3-4 year period (think I stopped when Raikkonen won until last season), where I didn't follow it at all.

Just tested a DTM car for a day, besides that has been focusing on a possible WRC career. Not ready for F1, and possibly never will be.

Makes you wonder what is going on with Kimi and Jenni, was she even at the pit during Kimi's Ferrari years? The last race I recall seeing Jenni was when Kimi was still at McLaren.

Jenni doesn't want to tour the races and Kimi said it's pretty boring there...that "in her shoes" he wouldn't want to be there either They are still married but Kimi certainly likes to party without his wife. Also Jenni has her own competition sport that takes time...the horse jumping or what ever that is called, LOL

The only thing missing from Kimi's playboy image is a divorce, just saying'.
