How bout more like over 800. This guy aint a rookie. He's been working out apparently and he's been playing on that minor team in Alaska. He'll have to adjust to the system and his line mates but this guy is a minimum 2nd line player when he's healthy and confident.
Previous games played has nothing to do with conditioning (otherwise players like Mike Richards wouldn't be so out of shape right now and Thornton would never have to practice in the off-season), and the ECHL isn't exactly a great conditioning assignment either. Todd McLellan and Gomez himself noted a number of times how his conditioning is currently not on par and it'll take a while to acclimate himself to the NHL and get back up to game speed.
And before you start talking about Gomez's great work ethic or whatever, this nothing to do with work ethic. Montreal told him after the lock-out ended to stay at home and not show up to training camp. He expected not to play at all this season, missed training camp, and he hasn't played in an NHL game in a while, it isn't out of the question to think his conditioning isn't up to standard.
