Jagr is a generational talent, future HOF, not many players out there have his playmaking skills or know how to slow down the game while protecting the puck in the offensive zone like he does.
Of course he is missed!
But on the other hand he looked old and spent from last March onwards and he and his groin did not deserve 4.5M a year.
I just wish G would be a bit more selfish. It's almost like he is trying to please his teammates too much with the excessive passing (May have to do with the captaincy) The guy has a rocket shot, use it.
Thought I read 2 somewhere. Oh well! Same story, money wasn't there I guess.
I would have liked to have Jagr back at the same price, but he jumped the gun quickly and took the big deal(which I have no problem with) instead of waiting to see how the Parise, Suter sweepstakes ended up. He seems to be suffering through more injuries down in Dallas though, so it might not be the worst non signing.
Well, the longer Jagr waited, other teams would not have held their offer(s) out to him... going after someone else while he delayed. So, can't really blame him for not waiting, when the Flyers were stuck on those huge offers.
I do think that things might be different if he were here. Giroux just isn't the same. Jagr sometimes fed him the puck instead of taking the shot himself. The team is just no where near what they were last year, and he was a significant piece of the puzzle on the 1st line.
Admittedly, I am a Jagr fan, so I am biased. But, while he is injured right now, word is that he will play tonight. So, he's only missed a couple of games.
I'm sure it is affecting them a little, just learning to play with new line combos after an extended absence. I don't think it will be the difference between Giroux being an elite player and Giroux being a bust. The way I look at this season, is that it is going to be up and down for every player and every team in the beginning. Everyone needs time to adjust. It will even itself out eventually.
G did score 2 goals in the first 2 games. And now he's also missing Hartnell from last year's line. Give him a chance to get some chemistry with new linemates.
Jagr was good for everybody, but it's foolish to think our forwards can't function without him, especially 6 games into a brutal schedule after just a week of training camp.

Give it time.
by the time they do get it together or if they do, it will be too late this is a 48 game season, not 82 games.
It's ludicrous to think that one 40+ year old who didn't even deserve five mil over one year is responsible for a player as great as Giroux underachieving.
Players have ups and downs as do teams. This is a down for the team and Giroux. Voracek has always been an underachiever in the NHL going back to his Columbus days.
I think Giroux has improved his two way game this year...he's made pretty good amount of good defensive plays, this could also explain the lack of points so far.
Aside from the TB game Giroux has been good. Everyone around him has not. There has been little to no chemistry so far. In part because Schenn and Voracek have not been good at all, in part because the lineups have been changing a lot, in part because guys like Talbot and Fedotenko are offensive abcesses.
Offensive players in this league are very streaky, especially young ones. It's really a matter of confidence, as well as lines clicking. We can't hit the panic button yet, hopefully these guys find a groove this season.
He's been terrible. Looks like he's overthinking everything. Hartnell needs to take him out boozing and calm him down.
Exactly... he's frustrated because this is his team now and they are struggling mightily. Idk if anyone noticed but after the turnover in our zone he made in the third Bryz was motioning for him to calm down and relax. We need our complimentary guys to start to step up for a couple games and I believe G will revert back to his old self. Just my two cents.
