I love O'Reilly but this statement is ridiculous. One player doesn't suddenly make our forward corps world beaters, nor is it paper thin without him.

Maybe because Coho is light years better then Ennis already.

In a nutshell,

The leafs suck. It's apparent that the Kessel/Phaneuf era needs to end and the only player we have that can help us "reset" would be Kessel. Also given that we've already locked up a bunch of mediocre talent in Grabo/Lupul/Phaneuf/Komi/JVR, adding Kessel to this mix would only prolong this "era" of terrible Leaf hockey.

It makes sense if you watch the Leafs play, they're really bad.

I never said they were world beaters. With RoR gone and nothing to replace him we are very thin on forwards both in terms of NHL players and prospects. We're scratching NHL defensemen nightly and have guys expected to be up here in as little as one to two years. It's why the Avs are looking for a forward, fans are just thinking about this year.

It's not paper thin but it's not great either.

Prospect wise the cupboard is pretty bare, though Sherman did begin to address it with the McGinn trade (netting Sgarbossa and Connolly) and 2012 Draft by using all 5 picks on forwards. I'd imagine the same strategy will be applied this year, especially since they have a 1st round pick to use.

Lol, you haven't seen our board then. Every loss turns into "Fire Sacco", "Trade Stastny", "Trade Duchene", "We Need ROR!", and "Tank for Jones" threads.

Spezza is a loser-player. Puts in minimal effort, does not help his team in any way besides putting up points. 5P in 5GP so far this year, but has been our worst player by far.

I want a guy like ROR in the playoffs, not a player like Spezza.

As a Ducks fan I love the idea of Sbisa and DSP for RoR. Fair deal for both sides, IMO.

Anaheim needs a second line center, and with Vatanen looking to be close to being NHL ready, Sbisa is expendable. DSP is a great prospect, but right now our bottom 6 is a logjam

How bout Eller/Desharnais and a 2nd. Until the Subban negotiations are done, the would be a dream deal for the Habs.

Hodgson is more suited to a puck posession style of game whereas Ennis would thrive more on a high tempo style game. And yes, part of it is certainly the 'shiny new toy' syndrome.

O'Reilly is really a great compliment to what they already have in Colorado. I don't see why they would pay PA Parenteau 4 million but are balking at giving RoR 12 million over 3 years. Unless there is some unspoken issue going on, I HIGHLY doubt he is going anywhere. I'm not sure why the Avs go hogwild on mid range UFAs and then Balk at giving RoR a decent RFA deal.

As a hockey fan I totally agree with you, but as a GM that is terrible asset management. Spezza could garner a huge package if Ottawa was looking to trade him from teams like the Maple Leafs who have been looking for a #1 C for years.

What type of offersheet would give Colorado pause in terms of matching?
