I think this is part of it. Once Peckham is good to go, someone has to go and this is just a way to hopefully showcase Potter.

I still 100% agree with you. I don't like the fact that he just got benched after. It is hard to get going like that.

Agreed. There is the only thing that will make the Oliers tougher. They played with lots of toughness against the Nucks, then lost it. Crap shoot.

Never want a young guy like him with head issues. He got rattled pretty hard.

@JasonGregor: "We want to keep the players that are here active. Corey (Potter) coming back in is not a reflection of Mark's (Fistric) play." Kreuger
@JasonGregor: "Overall he's worked well. I'd like to see him create more on the 2nd PP. Defensively he's been better than last year." Kreuger on Whitney
@dantencer: Ralph Krueger says they'll look closely again at Khabibulin tomorrow and see if he's able to start backing up.
While I can see this, I would've played Potter Wednesday or Thursday and gave Fistric today and one of those.

Can't believe everyone's ready to fire Kreuger already...stop complaining and wait until the end of the season.

I was kind of expecting this after seeing that hit. I really do hope they didn't do any damage to him by letting come back on in the game...

While people are pissing and moaning about "promoting" Petrell, I like the move personally. Petrell's been a beast defensively so far and this move allows us to roll four lines all night.

And if I've ever said this, tonight might be a good night to put your money on Belanger to pot his first. Playing with a couple of speedy guys with some semblance of an offensive game will be a welcomed change for the vet.

As for the Potter insertion, I'm at a loss -- Even after the coach's explanation.

I'm starting to think once Peckham's healthy, we might be rolling 7 D some nights.

did Krueger "promote" Petrell to the 3rd line or "demote" smyth and Horcoff to the 4th?

it seems to me that SMyth and Horc better be good or they will be seeing 4th line miutes pdq. The line of MPS, Belanger, and Harsky will probably outplay them and steal their minutes.

Yeah, I doubt Krueger is seeing a great deal of distinction between the 3rd and 4th lines at this point.

As far as playing Potter, I really think Tambo et al are seeing this as the final evaluation year for a lot of the borderline players. If Potter can be a cheap, consistent 5 or 6 d-man with decent offensive skills, they can probably use that.

Also quite possible they're showcasing Whitney, who will almost definitely be gone at some point this year, and they want to get both Potter and Fistric time because eventually it's going to be a Potter-Fistric pairing.

Was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. I see this as giving Belanger some more offense on his line as he's been playing decently so far. Smyth/Horcoff gets less 5-5 time this way, but will make it up with some PP and PK time.

Is anyone else mad that Smyth got a 2 year deal?

He has no right being in the NHL after this season is over.

I don't think Petrell got promoted or demoted.

Krueger probably just wants to see Paajarvi and Harski together.

Neither of them really did anything to deserve 3rd line minutes, so they're getting reunited on the 4th line.

In terms of EV strength time on ice per game they are not so far, except for Petrell:
Harti: 7:02
PRV: 8:05
Petrell: 5:22
Belanger: 7:33
Horc: 8:07
Smyth: 8:20

Seeing how our bottom lines have been working I think it'll stay about the same unless one of them breaks out offensively (which I doubt).

I still have no idea why the second unit is being run on Hemsky and Whitney's side.

Gagner should be running it where he's been on the point and feeding Yakupov's one-timer.

I agree...Belanger looks solid so far this season..MPS looks decent as well
I only hope Harti can get it going...huge key to the bottom 6 success

Smyth and Horc look old and slow
