Signing a 2 year deal @ 2.75-3.0M$ is much better than a 3-4 years at 4.5M$ average. Since if he performs as he is expecting himself to be, he's looking at getting even better than Price's six years @ 6.5M$

No, signing less in the short term is never better. It leaves you open to all sorts of uncertainty and no one but you and Marc Bergevin would agree to that.

You must be a people manager somewhere with that outlook on compensation.
