Injury prone? Up until the back thing this season, all of his injuries have been freak accidents.

Wrist laceration and taking a puck to the jaw doesn't exactly put Helm on Colaiacovo's level, who has trouble handling routine checks.

Back inflammation totally not fun at all.

Hopefully he can get it sorted out.

CC is injury prone. Helm has a sore back. It happens.

He should look at his Squatting technique, shouldn't get back injury with proper technique, he needs to get some advice from powerlifters.

I'm so over Helm. Totally unreliable. Time to euthanize him and harvest his organs for the greater good.

According to the specialist it is a small ligament strain or tear, but ultimately nothing serious.

He had an injection and felt instant relief. He still won't workout until Monday, then he'll be reassessed.

Wtf is wrong with helm, he isn't getting better

All this because he couldn't squat properly...Thought these guys were instructed.

This is coming from a person with back problems. It just takes time. I'd rather see him wait till he is sure and comfortable before coming back rather than risking it and doing more harm. The team is making do with his absence and don't need him taking any unnecessary risks.

He just needs to invest a small amount of money in purchasing the book "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe and he will no longer squat like a little *****.

the way the Blues have been playing lately we could just play the Griffins against them and have a decent chance anyways

You're really trying to jinx this team aren't you? If they win tonight, I blame it on you

Helm is one of those guys that plays with reckless abandon everytime out. The downside of that is they tend to get hurt a lot. Love his style but starting to think this is going to be a regular thing

That Blues slide started from the first defeat to us (5-3). They had won every game except Chicago before that. Then Zetterberg blow them out with a hattrick, in same game Halak got injured --> 5 losses in a row with 26 conceded goals.

I compare him to Grady Sizemore in baseball. He gives everything, and sometimes that's too much.

Darren Helm (back) isn't believed to be close to returning.
"I saw him walk in here (Tuesday) and I haven't seen him since, so he must not be very close," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. Helm has already missed 11 of Detroit's 12 games this season. Feb 13 - 10:10 AM
Source: Detroit News

Doesn't look good.

Seems a bit premature to call him hockey's Grady Sizemore at this point- Sizemore has missed significant time for the last 4 seasons, highlighted by missing all of last year. While Helm seems to have cornered the market on freak injuries, he only started missing time last year and into this season... which still sucks for a team that doesn't have great center depth.

But for crying out loud, let's not throw the Sizemore tag on him already and doom him never playing more than half a season again

I don't think this is a fair assessment at all. He cam back from injury last year, only to get a freak injury in the first game of the playoffs. I mean, that could happen to anybody. This latest injury has nothing to do with how he plays. The season hadn't even started yet when he got injured. It just happens to be one of those nagging injuries that takes a while to heal. To me, injury prone someone who is chronically injured, like Louis Delmas on the Detroit Lions, and keeps re injuring the same area. Helm will heal. Its just a matter of time.

Red Wings' Darren Helm cleared to push harder in rehab

Quote:
“Yeah, I talked to another doctor,” Helm said at Joe Louis Arena today. “He’s kind of confirmed what a few other doctors have said. There’s nothing really structurally wrong with it. I can kind of start pushing things and progress and try to push through that pain that I’m having.

“I’m not going to have any big problems with it. Obviously, if I go too hard too fast, things will get a little messy. If I keep a steady pace and be smart about it, I shouldn’t have any problems.”

But he will not accompany the team on its two-game trip to play the Phoenix Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche.

Helm said he has been skating on his own for about a week. Today was the first time he was able to take shots with the goalies before the team practiced. Helm said he’ll continue to skate by himself this week.

Helm is optimistic he could be back before the end of the regular season.

“Hoping to just get back when I get back,” he said. “Hopefully, when I do, there’s some games left where I can play.
