I was actually impressed with Staal out there.

He did great on the penalty kill.

....and took a diving penalty. Is we know why JR needed to have this guy.

I don't think it was a dive.

I think the refs didn't want to give the Checkers a 5-3 for 2 mins to start the 2nd.

It think it is also funny former ECHL Checkers goon boy Rutherford is back... and evidently grew since he was listed at 5'9

Checkers off to a good start yet again.

They can score on the power play though...2/2 for them compared to 0/6 for us.

EDIT: Make that a 3-0 score now.

Again, Pither scores. Maybe the organization knew something about him after all. That, or just luck.

Do I have to type it in all capitals and bold for you to understand?

Pither with five points in three games for the Checkers. Ten points in 39 games with the Phantoms.

James Earl Rutherford is a genius.

Sure, give him 3-5 minutes a night on the 4th line and see if he can earn his way onto the roster.

Seriously, I want to see the advanced stats the Canes were looking at when they did this one. I mean who the hell saw this coming?

JR did, just as he saw Joe Corvo being a perfect compliment to Gleason. See, his skills at identifying players is spot on.

When do you think it is likely Michal Jordan gets a call up? I was surprised he was on the AHL all-star team, though I don't follow the Checkers much. He seems like a much more defensively responsible PMD, something this team lacks with Sangs, Corvo, and to a lesser extent McBain. Any chance we see him this season?

Your guess is as good as mine but Jordan is having a nice season thus far. I'd say it's possible, especially if Sanguinetti doesn't get any better.

surprised that he didn't get a callup to training camp with Murphy and Sangs to be honest.

I will say I wouldn't be surprised if our rumored interested in Weber from the Habs is so that we can send Sangs back to Charlotte easily.

Where are these Weber rumors originating, Dave? I haven't seen anything so far. I don't check Eklund, is it there?

I think it was more "speculating" Carolina might be interested vs. a true rumor that they are.
