Yeah, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Over-payment IMO.

Subban's good and would improve the blue line, but hes not a #1.

I could deal with dealing Jake and another piece.

But two solid pieces like Jake and Laughton plus a first is just too much to give up for a single player that hasn't done much yet in his own respect.

This is what a deal would look like if Couts isn't involved imo. Maybe a roster player coming back with PK. Still don't think MTL would take it though. Although Habs in a few years could be a powerhouse.

I'd be kinda pissed if we lost Ghost, since he is the FIRST LEGIT defensive player in the system. He is obviously all potential right now, but would like to see him in a Flyers jersey in the future. Maybe I just dont see Subban as being super good as others are making it out.

Well hopefully other GMs just look at him as a 3rd round turning 20 yr old who is too small, and dont want him (one can hope)

Sorry, I misread that. If that's the case, Flyers would be taking one step forward and three steps back.

i don't think it'd be good for locker room chemistry if you trade for the elder schenn, just to deal his younger brother mid season. luke is already dealing with a new environment in a new system, coming from a high pressure situation where his development and likely his confidence was given a shot.

trading brayden probably isn't in the cards. if one goes, you'll either have to deal both of them or be ready for a bitter remaining brother.

A thirty point defender that isn't a true shutdown defender, in what world does that equate to "one of the best"?

****, I can name a dozen defenders I'd rather have at the same age - Doughty, Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Ekman-Larsson, Enstrom, Bogosian, Byfuglien, E.Johnson, Karlsson, Myers, and if Schenn can keep up his play I'd say it's a pretty each choice there as well. Not to mention Weber, M.Staal, Keith, Seabrook, Edler, and Letang.

You let Jagr and Carle walk? You better have something up you sleeve to compensate for the loss because you won't find an equal replacement in free agency and you don't have any pieces to trade for. Homer is with his back against the wall already!
It's things like trading 1st round picks for Steve Eminger, Kris Versteeg rentals, dumping Upshall to save a bit of cap space, not signing a top prospect because you wasted contracts on no-name prospects, tossing mostly every 2nd round pick for garbage, etc. Individually, each move doesn't seem like a big deal, but it adds up over time.

You can rationalize it because Holmgren has been able to find so many great diamonds-in-the-rough (Leino, Read, Bobrovsky), high-yield acquisitions and strong drafting. However, expecting that you'll continue doing that every year is a risky and arrogant management style. Before, Holmgren could mend whatever hole was missing by mortgaging draft picks/prospects, but after years of doing that over and over, he's run out and does not have the assets to plug up the big holes in the roster.

Doughty, Pietrangelo, OEL, Johnson, Karlsson and Myers I can understand.

But, you'd really rather have Schenn, Bogosian, Enstrom or Byfuglien than Subban?

Really? Subban is pretty clearly superior to all of them, in terms of current play and potential.

I think Enstrom is probably the best out of all of those. Schenn I think at this point is catching up to Subban rapidly and probably has the same ceiling. The problem comparing Subban and Schenn is that they are two different styles. If you want a top big shut down D-man, Schenn is the prospect you are looking at. If you want a puck moving guy then Subban is the prospect you are looking it.

Has there been any recent discussions between the Flyers and the Habs, or was this just discussions over the summer and now it is all jibber-jabber on HFBoards?

Agreed. Enstrom is easily the better player. It is a shame he plays for someone like the Jets, people don't notice him too much. I'd go after Enstrom first over Subban.

Bogo has looked pretty damn good recently, so don't know if Subban is better than him.

So P.K. Subban re-ups with MTL, two years, $2M in Year 1 and $3.75M in Year 2 for $2.875M AAV.

Subban definitely just threw away some money for sure. I know MDZ, Kulikov, and Subban were all RFA's and they have little leverage, but they all walked away from a couple million over the course of their deals, in my opinion. Oh well, I wasn't sold on throwing a huge deal together for him anyway. He's still got a lot to prove in this league, despite what the Montreal hype machine would insist.

I assume he is UFA at the end? Habs got a steal on this one, especially if there is another RFA deal at the end.
