I think we recover a hell of good D, but as well we have a hell of good GM.

Kudos Bergevin and Subban!

Future looks bright in Mtl!

Well the point some of us are making, is he was going to be getting that anyway, and signing him now could have saved us at least a million in a few years. 1M might not seem like a lot but it could be the difference between chasing free agents and not.

But that's it from me, I'm happy and I don't want to spoil having Subban back. Subban clearly wanted to be back himself.

I think it was more of a "gentleman's agreement" that is Subban does what Bergevin asks of him, he will be rewarded generously.

I'm so ecstatic right now!!!

Exactly the term I wanted, surprised we got it done for 2.5, I would've been willing to go to gorge money (3.9). Next one will be for 8 years PK!!!

Maybe somebody mentioned this but 2M this year and 3.75M next year so they will have to pay more to qualify him.

Bob McKenzie just mentioned this on NHL Network.

But people will understand this later.
No they won't, they'll blame Subban again. Hey it worked for them this time

Hate the way management handled this and what should feel like a win really doesn't. Next contract he kills us.
How does he "kill us"

That's the scary part.

Next contract, Subban will be really going for Doughty numbers.

It's a RFA signing. It's SUPPOSED to happen.
It's not some big move by Bergevin. The surprise here is that this wasn't done before the season started.
Well said. I'm over the top relieved that Subban accepted this deal. Not excited about any managerial maneuvers.

I guess all the fans of the other teams that hoped to trade their teams scraps for PK can now go back to hating on him again.

You should tell that to Bergevin who offered less than Del Zotto money to Subban.

Would you trade Subban for Del Zotto ? No ? Why should he make less than Del Zotto then ? The same MDZ who even had to be sent back to the minors at some point.

And I guarantee he will get it. Price didn't give the Habs any discounts and after this, I doubt PK will either.

Isn't that in his fair right? If he worked for it, got points, played the best hockey ever. He deserves it.

I'm not getting this "kill us next deal" thing.

So you'd prefer signing him to a 5 million dollar deal now.. and it doesn't pan out, complain how we should trade him?

WTF, you just said a post ago that it's a ridiculous salary for PK... I don't think he would have accept it before the season.

Actually a good deal for Subban too. Don;t forget the $ 2m salary for this year is almost halved players are actually only getting close to half their salary as almost half the season was cancelled). So the fact that $ 3.8 M is for next year really works out for PK and a nice gesture by MB to back load the dollars until next year to make PK happy while still maintaining a reasonable salary cap

Because we could have saved long-term if we signed to the money PK wanted now. In two years we may have to pay 1.5-2 million dollars extra, where we could have had him signed for less at a longer-term now.

If we want him long term he's going to go after every last dollar. It'll cost us a lot more in the long run than it otherwise would've.

Provided he gives the Habs Doughty performances, I see no problem with that. I'm sure Habs management won't either.

He continues to develop and than says, "See Doughty's contract? It's that or I'm gone." He has literally no reason not to rip the Habs off right back.

How exactly is 5.75 lowballing? That's a very generous offer. Not too high, but high enough that it's an investment for when he does improve. By next contract, if he's worth the big 7-8M, then give it to him, but he's not worth that– just yet.

If Subban walks after his RFA years i hope we don't ask ourselves why

I'm happy for the signing but worried he is going to be bitter at the habs organisation.
