Some one on the main board made a great point. Did any GMs try an offersheet? Because having young RFAs sign cheap bridge contracts can be used as comparables, it helps them all.

One player agent on the Subban deal: "It's bizarre how low it is. Low term. Low dollars."

I hope bad blood wasn't created
The only bad blood is from the PK Subban fans on the internet who despise Bergevin for getting him to sign a contract that will free up money to help improve the Montreal Canadiens.

And why be pissed off because the Canadiens will now be able to get better talent on the team............along with Subban on the ice??????

The question of the day.

I'm not getting this "kill us next deal" thing.

So you'd prefer signing him to a 5 million dollar deal now.. and it doesn't pan out, complain how we should trade him?
Do you think he won't pan out? Of course he will. He's already shown he's a five million dollar player now. Even with a short bridge we should've at least given him more than we have.

Do the math man...

Not only that but we just pissed off a player we're counting on heavily for the future.
The whole way this was handled was extremely dumb.

considering the contract Price got from Bergy, Subban definitely can get Doughty numbers.

Why ****ing bother about that ?

If he deserves it, he will get the long fat contract.

In two years, guys like Kaberle, Gionta and Cole (Markov ?) will be gone.

Marc Bergevin seems to be good at his job and that makes me sad.

It's a conference call, so I doubt it's on TV.

TSN 690 will have it.

For me it REALLY depends on how you see PK Subban.

I'd rather take the two year deal and the chance that PK asks for 2-3 million more next deal (if he earned it) instead of dealing with him for 4-5 million for next 5 years, and he doesn't pan out like you'd hope. It was a RISKY deal. I personally feel it's the best deal.

Even as PK Subban. It's a good deal and don't think a long-term deal was any good for him.
Give me 4 million next year. I kick ass, and I prove I'm worth 5-6 next deal.

What do you mean? This means the lowball offer rumour was true and we're lucky Subban isn't as 'greedy' as people and media tried to make him out to be.

He'll be RFA. Things will be OK. He will not have that much power then either. As UFA he would. It's business.

Smart by PK really. He has to play 1.5 seasons and if he plays amazing he's in line for the biggest contract in Habs history. Would have been smarter for the Habs to pay him now tbh. Anyways happy to have him back. Fits perfectly into our current style. Trade Kaberle, FTW.

Subban makes the team better. End of story.

Anyone unhappy that he signed needs to go cheer for the tanking Leafs or something

The question of the day.
It comes at a price man. And in the long run, it's going to cost us a whole lot more.

Then again it could've been worse and PK could've told MB to go **** himself so uh, yeah let's be happy about this.

1. I think we could've signed him longer team at a cheaper rate.
2. Whatever chance there was for a hometown discount is now long gone.

This.

And we're seriously lucky he didn't just tell us to go jump in the lake.

Compare that contract to every other #1 defenseman in the league, or better even, just RFAs. This offer is an absolute lowball when held up by comparison.

This contract follows Gainey's philosophy for player contracts: keep them short. Long contracts have a lot of potential for unhappiness: if a player breaks out (Leclair) he feels ripped off, if a player tanks (Gomez) the team dos. Short contracts keep the player's salary in line with his play. If the habs don't implode they should be better with PK in the lineup so he will make his numbers and earn his 6 mil per year a couple of years from now.

I'm eager to see what the team looks like with either Subban or Markov on the ice for 50+ minutes.

Well let's hope that he puts this behind him and plays hockey. I am worried about him not wanting to sign long term on the next one, but maybe it won't be so bad. As long as management finds out in advance if he wants $ or stay here, so we can trade him for more than scraps as he approaches UFA.

This is good news for the Habs.

Don't try to morph into bad news...

MB and his entourage are looking at the big picture.

No use worrying about what didn't happen yet.

Including salaries of @AGally94 , @BGALLY17 and re-signed @PKSubban1 #Habs cap space should be just over $3 MM (Source http://Capgeek.com )
