That's actually the exact opposite of reality, it's not easy to look good playing with Gill on a first pairing, and the fact that Subban held his own shows us just how special this kid is.

For those who are thinking Pk is not paid enough, just calcuate your own salary compared to his.

It will probabyly take you a lifetime or two to receive what is gonna get in a year and a half.

Get real.

The way I see it there were a few possible outcomes here:
Sign him short term huge dollars (PK wins, Management loses)
Sign him longterm, until well after he becomes UFA-elligable at what you consider a "cheaper rate" (Management wins, PK loses)
Sign him short term to a deal that's fair and not that high, with the contract ending right where he should statistically be in his offensive prime and thus can demand a heftier contract than he ever could as we speak (PK and management win some, both knowing that in two years, he'll either force the team's hand in being offered a massive contract or he'll simply bust and not be worth the money).

Hometown discounts are a thing of the past. Kid is a firecracker in his early '20s. I know a lot of older guys would wanna play for the honour of the hometown, but plenty of people (even me, for example) would definitely go where the money and the cups were.
Simple. We could have inked him to a similar contract Edler is now sporting (6/30M) whereas now he will look to cash in around Karlson or Doughty money and have all the leverage in the world to say, "Either pay me or I'll find another team who will."

This makes me lol...he signed him to a great term for a great price and the habs retain the right to match any offer that comes in next time PK is an RFA.

If you ask me, this is probably one of the best things I have ever seen a Montreal GM do period.

People that question if 'that the habs don't know what they have in PK' don't understand the sheer brilliance of this move. Now the habs get the security of another 2 year window for PK to prove he deserves the big coin...and the habs will ante up if he is worth it - and like I said they retain the right to match an offer sheet if any rivals want to play hardball.

Brilliance.

Slept for 12 hours straight, wake up and it's as dark as it was when I went to bed. Open homepage:

"F YEAH!!!!!!!"

This is so awesome! Are there still people who think MB is an idiot or have they now seen that he knows what he's doing. I'm sure as soon as PK hits the ice, he won't be thinking money and we can just put this behind us.

Welcome back PK! (Does Bergevin know how to heal burst appendixes?)

Bergevin interrupts a question addressed to Subban to say that business is business but that the fact that PK is here means he is not selfish.

He says that the fact that he is here, ready to jump in and help the team means he was willing to put the team first, ahead of himself.

Contract to popular belief, it seems like there's a lot of mutual respect on both sides.

And?

You could apply the same philosophy to any professional sports athlete. When held against his peers - the only logical comparison. PK was underpaid. Fantastic in the short-term but quite risky thereafter.
