Edmonton and San Jose (no young stars)

To SJS:
Ales Hemsky

to EDM:
Ryan Clowe

Ales Hemsky for Ryan Clowe straight up. A Clowe type player would be perfect for the Oilers top 6 which right now is too small and soft and can only really do damage on the powerplay. I know a lot of Oilers fans are going to hate this, but Hemsky honestly has a redundant skillset now, as RNH pretty much does everything he does except better, while similar things can be said about Eberle except he's not as fast as Hemsky, but a much better shooter. Now I know the Sharks are on an absolute roll right now and don't want to mess up their chemistry, but lets be honest, the players driving that team are Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, and Couture; Clowe is sort of just a passenger. Even without Clowe, that Sharks top 6 still has plenty of size, and adding a playmaker of Hemsky's calibre would greatly complement Couture on that second line.

I wouldn't do this because Hemsky is making 5mil and he is injury prone. We already have one named Marty Havlat.

The Sharks are doing well despite Clowe, not because of him.

Honestly I would have to think about it. I want Clowe gone, and Hemsky is great when healthy, but his health is a risk and his contract would put us up against the cap. Not awful, but not ideal.

Hemsky always has rumors around him going to California.

But I doubt SJ does this as they have unreal chemistry right now. If they have injuries etc.. that may change.

Yup. IF Hemsky could remain healthy every season and IF his salary wasn't that high, I would think about it. Hemsky isn't a shooter. He is basically a higher skilled, faster, and smaller Clowe. We need a sniper for the 2nd line.

Clowe + Murray for Hemsky + Peckham\Potter + a tier 2 prospect like Teubert or Plante..

edit: It is awesome watching the Sharks troll this league... Marleau is the man..

SJ doesn't even think about it. As previously mentioned they already have Havlat who is almost the exact same player as Hemsky just more goals, less assists. They trade Clowe and suddenly their top-6 is soft.

No chance.

If Clowe didn't go full retard against Vancouver I bet you'd feel differently.

Exactly the type of deal the Oilers need to look at. If this doesn't get it done there's a few UFA's that fit the bill this summer - Clarkson, Morrow, Horton, Clowe, Iginla...

If they were making the same money, I'd do it in a heartbest. However, he's too expensive for us next season.

Clowe would be a great fit in EDM, not sure whether Hemmer fits to the same extent in SJ.

Basics of this deal are good...maybe doing a 2 for 2 to help balance out the salary issues.

Hemsky contract ends after next year if I recall.

I've been an advocate of trading Clowe since last trade deadline, yesterday just was one of the many times Clowe has done more harm than good.

The Sharks don't have any bad contracts that don't expire this off-season (Murray, Handzus).

The only way something like this might work would be if you traded us value for Boyle as well, but with J. Schultz Boyle's not a need.

i like trying to work a deal out between these two teams. But maybe a different and more valuable starting point. The Oilers need some muscle to protect their young guns no? Kind of in the same way that Clowe has become the papa bear to Couture his first couple of years, going after anyone that tries to mess with touch or injure him. It's honestly one of my favorite things about him, because let's be honest, when the young guys come up into this league it seems obvious that teams will try to take some liberties with them. And Clowe always took exception and made them pay for cheap shots on Cooch. The Sharks have too many D... maybe the oilers would be interested in Murray. Obviously he wouldn't bring as much since his foot speed is severely lacking. But he would bring some toughness and defense for their back end. The Oilers could give the Sharks some of their speed and a little scoring pop for the third line. Not sure what would fit that since i don't watch the Oilers enough to pretend to know their players well. But it could be interesting.

Ah, here it is - Ales Hemsky going straight up for a better all around player. Not a SJ fan, but I assume it would pass on this.

This is actually an outstanding match!

The Hemsky deal - is short term.. a low risk, High reward move. Would be VERY interesting to see what he would do with big star linemates... He would thrive.
Adds speed and a high level of skill upfront for them.

Clowe is also the perfect piece of beef that the Oilers need upfront as well.. Should mix in well with those little forwards.

- maybe minor pieces for salary balance... but the switch in the characteristics of the 2 main pieces is perfect.

Sharks would be trying to add some 3rd/4th line scoring. Not subtract from or make a lateral move in their top 6. It wouldn't help them.

Not quite a match... yet.

Hemsky is certainly not low risk. His injury history says so.

I will up Edmontons trade offer.

Hemsky (we retain 2 million in Cap space this season and next) + b level Prospect for Clowe

Or MPS + B level Prospect for Clowe

Any Closer?

If we are trading for a top 6 winger, we want a goal-scorer, not another playmaker. We have enough playmakers already.

I don't want another Marty Havlat. I want more of a sniper.
