It's great news that he's playing with us. Can't wait to see him. I completely disagree with how he handled it but right now I guess it's not important.

Just glad to see him back!

Dude, Bouillon is a third pairing guy. Emelin has shown he can handle even top pairing minutes, and deserves it. In my opinion it should be:

Markov-Emelin
Gorges-Subban
Diaz-Bouillon

Get real.
Just a foolish and unrealistic perspective. If you were in the top 50 people WORLDWIDE in your area of endeavor - particularly if it was a multi billion dollar a year industry - you too would be remunerated astronomically.

You get real.

They whine when they overpay a player. Reasonable.

They whine when they sign a great player for cheap, even though the player is not bitter about it.

I would completely understand people whining about it all if Subban was unhappy, but the guy went out of his way to express just the opposite. The GM is happy, the player is happy, the contract is cheap. Why the nonsense?

I'm just happy it's all over. Trust me, explaining to my 5-year old son why Subban wasn't playing was pretty tricky. But now that he understands terms like 'lowballing', 'prima dona', 'lame *** management' and 'Doughty Money', he's gonna grow up to be an amazing poster on this board

If my math is correct, 2m (~1m this year) for the 1st year and 3,75m for next year is like signing Subban to a 6,3m deal. Still a great deal. Cant wait to see our full D-core on the ice.

Think about that for a second.
See, I don't understand this comment.

How is it that very knowledgeable hockey fans don't understand how important players like Prust are. They are your "glue guys". It's not just about scoring goals and dishing out saucer passes.

I have, and had no issue with how much Prust got paid. He's doing not so bad with the two kids right now, no?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=652977

In an ideal world I see this: The numbers are rough estimates of course but it give the TOI totals I see as effective given ages and abilities, and having good D at ES for most of the game. This assumes 8M PP and 8 M PK per game.

Subban 18 M ES, 4M PP, 4 M PK, 26 M total paired with Gorges 18 M ES, 4 M PK, 22 M total

Markov 16 M ES, 4M PP, 4 M PK, 24 M total paired with Emelin 16 M ES, 4M PP (I Want to see this!), 22 M total

Diaz 10 M ES, 4M PP, 14 M total paired with Cube 10 M ES, 4 M PK, 14 M total

Kaberle and Weber sit. One of them will go at deadline.

PP: Marky Diaz
Subban Emelin

PK: Subban Gorges
Marky Cube

This limits Marky's TOI to 24 M, he's playing too much ES right now, it's risky.
Also Limits Cubes TOI to where he can be most effective at his age.
Not need to play Kaberle or Weber at all when healthy.
It also gives us 2 dangerous offensive D for the penalty kill stretch pass in Marky and Subban. I would not be surprised if we start popping in a few shorties, with Bourque and Pleks up front playing well.

This is the difference Subban makes.

A well balanced D, with either Marky or Subban ion the ice for 50 M per game, and low minutes for the weakest ES guy and old guy.

The most interesting thing is the second wave PP. It might be Emelin's chance to take a spot here now. I will be very curious to see what Terry does.

This D is looking pretty good right now, I must admit, mainly because of Marky's incredible play, and the emergence of Diaz and to some extent Emelin, playing with Marky.

I see the Habs in this model as a good defensive ES team, with a dangerous power play that will make other teams honest, and hesitant to play dirty.

Now this I like! It's perfectly reasonable for people to dislike BG's tactics, even though Subban is okay with it But atleast you know what's real important dude. Even though I tend to disagree with you most of the time, I enjoy your reasoning.

Thank you.

This will all be forgotten by us (though probably not by PK) within a day. We'll just be happy to see him playing again. And then the next contract negotiation will come up. Hopefully next time it's not ten pages of him holding out...

I'm ready to bet that Subban will start on a pairing with Bouillon but he will be back with Gorges soon enough. With that being said, if Markov keeps the same pace, I don't think that PK will get top pairing minutes this season.

Yup, I agree that's how I'd do it. And I'd try to give Diaz extra shifts where I could.

Haha and he gets called "humble" after trying to hold the team over a barrel! The delusion of some on here is as thick as molasses.

I'm very happy to have him back in the family. We're a massively better team. The drop in the quality between our 5th and 6th D was huge and hurting the team. I'm happy that's over.
