Your Leafs despartley need a #1 Center if they are going to make a trade they would have to overpay anyway.

And Richards isn't a legit #1 C.

So no.

When I see Mike Richards I think of Patrice Bergeron and I consider Bergy a #1C so I don't see the problem with Mike Richards.

Just wondering what the consensus value (if there is such a thing on HF) of Mike Richards to Toronto would be. What would it take for him to be traded to the Leafs?

I was thinking something along the lines of:

Grabovski
Mid-level prospect (Percy, Finn, or Blacker)
2nd round pick

Thoughts and input would be nice.

Cheers.
I think it takes courage to put up serious proposals like this. You almost always get raked over the coals for it. But I wont. You ask a legitimate question.

To Toronto

Richards

To Kings

Kessel

Can see LA having precisely zero interest in trading Richards. I mean, for Kessel the value might be there in a vacuum, but why does LA even bother?

I doubt Lombardi would do this even if Kessel is better offensively. Lombardi wants character players, not guys like Kessel.

Two distinct questions.

What would it take for him to be traded to the Leafs?
Too much, LA doesn't want to move him so you would have to overpay.

Just wondering what the consensus value (if there is such a thing on HF) of Mike Richards to Toronto would be?
No such thing on HF, but the quantity for quality idea is a useless discussion, as always on HF. Thus it has to be quality for quality.

Can someone tell me when Richards scored 82+ points, I seem to have forgotten that season.

I see your point but I am of the opinion you generally cant add up pieces to make up for the best player in a trade.

So you try to trade one for one to get value. Kessel is faster and better offensive instincts but Richards is no slouch offensively and has a hell of a lot more grit and character so while Richards is the better overall player its as close as I could get to value.

Why would LA trade him?

They paid a premium for one on the best 2nd line centres in the league.. Richards brings leadership and a boatload of intangibles, and he just played an integral part in their Stanley cup win..

If someone wants Richards you'll have to overpay, significantly..

While Kessel theoretically may hold similar trade value, the Kings will value Richards more because of what he is to them.

The leafs need to stop making moves and leave the team to youth development. Draft a goaltender next year. Start from there.

Hahaha, if Toronto offered Kessel for Richards LA would do it in a heartbeat.

I like Richards but I don't see the appeal in trading Grabo + significant pieces for him. Grabovski was better in 2011-2012 and only slightly worse in 2010-2011. If the Leafs were to trade Grabo + JVR for Richards for example, I think that only makes the Leafs worse. Ideally they'd want to trade for a center without giving up Grabovski, unless it's a significant improvement over him, which Richards is not.

Similar return to what he was traded for before. Schenn + Simmonds = Gardiner + Kulemin?

Grabo > Richards right now. Richards is slightly younger and has slightly more value though.

"He helped win a cup"

Ya I'm sure Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Carter, Brown, etc had nothing to do with it.

I think the real question is, how do you then get Carter to TO because hes going to be sulking.

Now that I think of it, why are the leafs adding for Richards.

Grabo is better offensively, better defensively, cheaper, and has great chemistry alongside Kulemin.

Only benefit of Richards is the 1 or 2 year age difference, and a cup ring.

We've seen how Carter plays when Richards isn't around. It's not pretty.
