How could you figure he mishandled it though? What do you even know about the negotiations? How in the world does a GM mishandle anything when he gets the best young defenseman on the team signed to an amazing contract?
That's amazing negotiation tactics by Bergevin, if anything. He got the results we wanted, and probably better. Everything he has done thus far has been the right move for the team as a whole now, and in the future.
You can view my reasoning by looking up the previous ten threads on PK's holdout. I won't go into it again.
As happy as I approve of the way BG handled all this, those of you claiming PH Subban doesn't "deserve" more than the contract he just signed are beyond insane. Subban will not be overpayed when he gets Price-like money in two years, assuming ofcourse that he doesn't have setbacks.
5,75 million for one season and a half of hockey ain't that bad.
Bang on, see my post above! However Subban and Gorgeous will be top ES pair, resting Marky and limiting risk with Emelin, who is still after all a second year player, though older.
ES will be:
Gorgeous-Subban +- 18 M
Markov-Emelin +- 16 M
Diaz-Bouillon +- 10 M
Too good a D to play Kaberle or Weber!
Yes, pretty much. I would be fine with PK playing top minutes, though Emelin and Markov have indeed proven they can handle the burden, which is really just amazing to see.
What I am more curious to see is our PP/PK pairings. Will we stick with what is working on the PP and keep with Markov-Diaz and Subban-Gorges? Or change it up with Markov-Subban and Diaz-Gorges/Emelin? Really eager to see what we will go with.
This defense is really interchangeable and looks a lot better on ice than it seemed on paper before the season started.
What you should be looking for is people, the same people, who changed their mind before and after. That's who you should be referring to. If you find people who bashed Bergevin because he was giving a ridiculous offer and then praise him after...well bash those posters. But there are some people who didn't have a problem with Bergevin's offers. And there were others, like me, who had problems with it.
The nonsense? Well that's because if PK would have been happy with that, he would have signed earlier. PK HAD NO CHOICE, NO LEVERAGE. So the problem doesn't reside in that for me. He resides in the fact that we surely could have signed him long term in the long run for less money that he will be commanding in 2 years. This signature is too short term for me. 'Cause I do believe PK will ask for major overpayment soon. And that's IF he really is honest in him wanting to stay here.
'Cause let's face it. It's really funny to read people talking about how dedicated he is to this team and so on. People....this is not the time to mention this. Can we just wait till he has some leverage before making those assumptions?
It's great for us short term, we have PK this year, we have PK next year at a smaller price with the cap going down. But that's it so far.
I don't have any problem with your reaction or anything you've said. You are one of those that I tend to disagree with I think, yet I admire the way you think. You may be surprised to learn that I actually agree with you that a long term deal would have been better, it would have likely saved us more money. That's a point that cannot be ignored. I have no problem with that point.
What I have a problem with is people whining over the contract not because they wanted a long term deal, but rather because they think the money was too low. That's just stupid, from a fans perpective. You know what I mean? I also think that the people who think PK received exactly what he deserved are insane. No way.
So, even though I generally agree with you here, I also understand where Bergevin is coming from. So am not upset about it. This deal will help with future contracts too.

For now I'll just say that I'm happy he's back.
Well unless some credible information was leaked about difficulties during their negotiations, I don't see how one can complain about Bergevin mishandling anything.
We came away with amazing contracts and during the conference call they had nothing but admiration and respect for each other. Really interesting to hear Subban's praise for how Bergevin went about with the negotiations, and his remark saying something along the lines of "I always knew I would sign" tells us he always knew he was going to be a Hab, most likely indicating the negotiations never really took a wrong turn and were smooth and open the entire time.
Again, nothing but praise for how Bergevin and PK handled the situation. I am also very happy he is back.
What is your proof? - I can tell you that Carey Price isn't a team player and you wont believe me because there is no proof. So what is your proof?
There was Hall Gill.. A veteran.. A very reasonable man, who was known to have many spats with PK while simply trying to teach him to be a better defenseman. and don't just tear hal gill down, he was a responsible defenseman. and put the team first.
seriously though, i can definitely see some in the bell center booing him. although, more realistically, nothing will probably happen... i have a hard time deciphering this fanbase sometimes... it's cause were all a bit
