TV has been turned off. How much of this is due to Weber signing the offer sheet from Philly and his agent spouting off about Shea wanting to play where he has a legitimate shot at a Cup? Though Philly hasn't looked much better. I am so disappointed at pathetic play from guys who are vets and being paid very well.
I think this is good for us. sell out some old parts at the deadline .. fisher, legwand, gaustad.. pick in top 5.. we aren't that bad. our offense is just AHL caliber
I'm guessing our return for Gaustad wouldn't be a 1st rounder. Amazing what a year does. Poile gets fleeced and pics up a garbage player, doubles down by overpaying to resign him, then flips him for a 4th. Lol.
SK has always been streaky. We're just getting his 4-8 games of nothing at the beginning of the season this year. Fisher's disappearance is troubling. Smith's slump from the middle of last season continues. Wilson is generating but unable to finish ... disappointing when one of them was with his blade in the crease and he deflected it away from the goal line. The PP has vanished since the win at Minny.
Josi is playing well. Yip is playing with heart ... too bad there's not enough skill to go with it.
I am more amused than anything. I trust Poile to make the right decisions for this teams future. I have doubted him in the past, but I am more confident now.
Time to do the smart thing and sell. This is just not our year.
When I have some time, I plan on making a thread about this...
It's not that I'm ready to hit the panic button and give up on the season. But we're not really close enough to make a trade. The bigger thing is that in the next two years, a few of these high salary teams are going to get blown the hell up.
Go over to capgeek and check out teams like Philly, New York, and Vancouver (among others). Philly seems especially ****ed. The cap goes down next year. They have a lot of contracts expiring in the next two years...a lot of contracts that will explode in value.
Two things: one, Poile can work this offseason hard with one or more of these teams and try to make a trade before their contract expires (giving us a leg up on resigning them as an RFA)...or we can wait for them to become RFA/UFA and play with all of the other teams for these guys.
Special note on Philly. Thanks for Weber's contract, you ******** ****s. Have fun trying to sign Giroux, Couturier, Schenn, and Read. I hope you plan on keeping Giroux, so we can offer sheet him for like $8 million. That will ensure that one or more of the other guys are freed up.
