I don't see the point in lowballing the players who you want to be your stars. If anything, I think for those types of players it's better to err on the side of generosity.
I would definitely give him $4.5M myself, but was trying to say I can see how a lot of GMs across the league wouldn't give him that.

Your last point is a good one. Do you really want to piss him off now? What if he gets bitter and holds a grudge? He's going to only then be more likely to bolt the hell out of their when he is a UFA.

or he's going to demand "make up" money as part of his next contract.

i get not wanting to give huge money to every rfa...but i think when the player is going to be one of the cornerstones of your team, you should pay them appropriately.

a benefit to locking up younger players early is you can buy up early UFA years at a discount.

With the new CBA, you can't really compare new contracts to prior. Guys are going to get a bit less for a couple of years.

The last two penalties called on LA were Columbus no goal bad.

Lu sucks at shoot outs. Chokes with under a minute left and loses in a shoot out.

Way to go LA! Nucks blow the one goal lead with 40 seconds left, then lose in the Shootout. Carter with the SO winner and Quick was perfect. Man he's a good goalie, if Hawks had him we'd be off the charts. Though Crow has been decent as of late.

If Lu is in net and they don't win it in OT, it's already over. I wonder who we see in the pipes come Friday. I can't decide if the Nucks have two starting goalies or two back up goalies. The goalie carousel and the non existent 2nd line is killing them right now.

they have two starters and once this situation is handled - Luuu being traded - you will see that they are good goalies again.

Yeah Luongo actually played a great game. LA had some great chances where they ended up shooting it right at him with an open net, but he played well nonetheless. Nice comeback for LA and sick move by Carter in the shootout. Their passing was pretty awful throughout the game though.

I hope they blow out Minnesota and have lots of scraps against them and get it out of their system. We don't need a thug like Kassian trying to dummy our stars just cuz they're frustrated with their crap play.

Having seen every game played by both teams the Sharks and Blackhawks are on other levels then any other team I have seen. Both can score in bunches, have solid D and are getting good play from their goalies. As good as the Hawks have looked SJ has looked better, right now Pavelski, Thronton, Marleau is the best line in the NHL, they are scoring almost every time they have the puck, it's amazing to watch. Should be a hell of a game on the 5th when they meet.

I still miss Niemi on the Hawks. I'd love to have Greiss over Emery too

Greiss is exactly what you want in a back-up. Good enough to go out and win games, had a shut-out against the Avs the other night, could spell the #1 if he got injured and missed a chunk of time, good guy on and off the ice. I would love him in Chicago.

Vancouver loss showed Lou for what he is. And why Vancouver will not get much for the guy.
Schneider has only played OK so they are in a bit of a pickle. That team is a one trick pony because when they don't score on PP they usually struggle to win the game. And to hear Vancouver fans complain about LA diving is irony in it's Highest form.

Puck (barely) stayed in motion, even though Burrows didn't.

When he makes the spin though, it looks like he stops the pucks forward momentum.

They need to just make it illegal to turn your back to the goalie on a shootout, would end all of the controversy on moves like this and the one St. Louis made.

Burrows trying to be cute like usual, but can't finish. Wake up Burrows, you don't have the talent needed to make those type of moves.

I meant to say it looks like it should be illegal in my post with the video... but yeah, that'd be a good rule to add.
