Columbus needs a pure finisher

They are clearly lacking someone who can put the puck in the net, the guy who will conclude a PP cycling sequence with a final touch. They need a sniper that will shoot before pass.

Who is available and what will it take to get one like that?

Simon Gagne? Too fragile. Not sure who else is out there for a reasonable price.

The Jackets first founder will most likely end up as a lottery draft pick so doubt they do it since there's two top level prospects available

What exactly are you willing to give up? Pure finisher's aren't exactly cheap to come by.

The fact is , it would.

Not that the Jackets want to move it. But it would require the first, there is nothing really that entices me to trade Kessel there (as a fan); other then the 1st or Murray...and Columbus wont move either. Going to have to look elsewhere, if they require top end finishers. They don't generally get traded for scraps.

No one is likely "out there at a reasonable price" right now. Chances are pretty good CBJ is playing the season with what it has towards establishing a baseline for a plan moving forward. So sure, there's no real goal-scorer (Atkinson, when healthy, is probably the closest thing), but that's just going to be the way it is for this season.

You're joking right? What is almost certainly a 1-2nd overall pick, for a guy who is only under contract for 1.5 more years, and hasn't led his team anywhere?

(And don't get me wrong - I like Kessel as a player. I just can't believe that anyone could serious consider the thought that the Jackets would move their 1st in a deal for Kessel.)

I know it's hard - but TOR fans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that if Kessel is traded, it's not going to be for anything close to what the original deal TOR/BOS deal ended up being. He might get a couple of 1st & a prospect (or equivelant value), but it almost certain that those picks won't be from a lottery team.

I can see the Jackets giving up a high draft pick and a defenseman . That is if they plan to attempt a playoff run. Otherwise, they will tank and not make any significant move.

Facts are facts. He is a pure sniper like the OP asks; and there is literally nothing on their roster besides the pick and maybe 1-2 prospects in their pool - that would even keep Nonis on the phone for a half second.

At the draft:

Mike Cammalleri for Boone Jenner and a 2nd.

I think the draft is a good time for the Jackets to make a splash because they may be able to get some quality guys for a decent price that might be compliance buyouts who would be unlikely to sign in Columbus as free agents.

"Tank it" makes it seem like their is a reasonable alternative, and that they are intentionally fielding a bad team to improve their draft position. The Jackets are rebuilding, and are really light on upper tier offensive talent. IMO, that's not a function of them "tanking it", but rather the fact that they drafted & developed poorly over an extended period of time. Because of that - there going to struggle this year.

Likely true from the Leafs perspective, however I'd argue that a player like Johanson would generate some significant interest.

The "fact" is though - that trade would be a ludicrous one from the Jackets perspective. Embarassingly bad, and the lack of Jacket trade pieces doesn't change that fact.

Its worth pointing out, to those referring to a pick as being a likely lottery pick, now simply means a pick from a non playoff team, since all non playoff teams will be in the lottery and have (varying) chances at first overall.

I fully understand, (and looking at a few other posts - other people too) that CLB (like the leafs) aren't going to mortgage the future for a 'now' player.

However, if you are asking for a finisher. What do you expect to pay? All finishers will come with a hefty price tag.

Stay the course, don't make any crazy moves.

I say we proceed as if "we" are NOT asking for a finisher.
