That is generally harder to fill since most teams don't waive top wingers.
I mostly agree. However I don't look at this and see any holes:

Kovalchuk
Zajac
Elias
Henrique
Zubrus
Clarkson

The least of those put up 44 points last year. I don't think we need a "top winger" moreso than just a winger or two.

Henrique Zajac Kovalchuk
Elias Josefson Zubrus
Matteau TRADE Clarkson (Perrault?)
Carter Gionta Bernier

Salvador Zidlicky
Greene Fayne
Volchenkov Larsson

Assuming Tallinder goes for a suitable 3rd liner and a random pick

It's like Entourage. You can get Vinny Chase for your big movie... but you have to make sure you get Johnny Drama a job too.

How about a trading Greene to Toronto for Kulemin? gives Toronto an exp'd d-man that I read they might be looking for. Gives Kovy another Russian to play on the top line with him. And frees up a spot so Larsson can get back into the lineup.

I know it's a longshot but if the Caps are out of it, I wouldn't mind adding Ribeiro to our top #6, plus he's a pending UFA to boot.

His creativity would do wonders for our PP and he can bump Henrique on the wing, wich would give us a solid option on our 1st line.

Henrique-Zajac-Kovy
Elias-Ribeiro-Clarkson/Zubrus

ROR is a great fit anywhere. But I don't want to pay what they will be asking for.

Ya right. ROR for Teddy, Urbom, and a pick maybe

They are looking for overpayment and that might not even be that.

Urbom and Tedenby isn't even close to what it would take.

Is there some sort of master list of Teams That Seek Veteran Defense?

I think we should expect something along the lines of last year's two major trades: Ponikarovsky and Zidlicky. Both were undervalued assets because they were not currently performing well with their teams. It was a risk we took that they'd turn their games around in NJ and it paid off.

We got Poni for virtually nothing, and we had to offer a few draft picks to Minnesota on order for them to accept our toxic asset in Foster and roster baggage in Villieux.

Tallinder is our defender with the highest movability-to-value ratio. I think we should be able to land a 2nd/3rd line F that is perhaps a bit overpaid/under-performing for him.

We're not going to land a 60+ point player, because we don't want to move the assets to make that happen

I hope a move gets made so we can see Larsson again, but I'm also not fretting too much about his development. He's still in larval stage. These first few years of his career will be the most forgettable. No one was talking about Ryan Suter in 2005.

I still stand firm that the Salvador contract is paramount foolishness. I really hope we get through it without it being a problem. I'd hate to have a Craig Rivet-type situation where we're scratching/waiving our captain.

It's time to stop equating Tedenby's value to his chosen draft slot. He's not a first round pick anymore.

Yea, he's been fine, but over-37, less-than-mobile players can lose effectiveness real quick. We need to get another 2.5 years out of him, which is not a given (I know that no contract of any length is a given, but this is an unnecessarily risky one).

My biggest complaint is that it was 100% unnecessary to sign a 35+ UFA to a 3-yr deal last summer. We don't have the room. Not this year, and not next year.

If we end up having to move Greene or Fayne because no one is biting on Tallinder, it's poor asset management on Lou's part.
