With Rakell I feel the same way. Are they going to play him 6-8 minutes a night and burn a year of his ELC for that when that will not be his role in a few years?
I agree. I think that is always a big question mark for most guys coming up. You want to bring them along slowly, but if you play them out of position (so to speak) it may hurt rather than help them. No easy or simple answer.

Totally agree with this.

Etem, Rakell, even Vatanan(mainly because who sits?) just feels rushed.

Certainly the Ducks could sign guys to the league minimum at this point to fill 4th line roles and play 8 minutes a game.

No sense in eating a year of Rakell's ELC.

No sense in rewarding Etem for a very average start to his pro career.

No sense in calling up Vatanan if he isn't going to play. Because again, who do the Ducks sit if Sami gets in the lineup?

Part of what I envy about how Detroit has been so sustainable over the years is the great lengths they go to not to rush a player along. Making sure they are mature and ready before the just throw them into the fire so to speak. I wish the Ducks would take a page from that book when it comes to developing talent.

The Admirals don't play until February 1. Let me ask you this, would you rather have Etem playing in the AHL All-Star Game and Vatanen picking his nose in Norfolk or both of them practicing in the NHL?

Rakell either takes Bonino's spot or he's sent down (most likely the latter).

Lidstroms retirement will do that to you. You can't argue with the results they get with slowly developing guys though. And they're about to have another wave of talent come through over the next year or so (Nyqvist, Smith, Tatar etc).

I'm not talking about the record of their team. There's a big gap in high end talent developed there in the last decade. Maybe that will changed with the next wave, but till then I'm not seeing it.

Filppula, Kronwall, Franzen all emerged in the late 2000s. Before that there's Datsyuk & Zetterberg. Now there's Smith, Nyqvist, Tatar & a few others who look promising. They also drafted other guys like Fleischmann, Hudler, Helm & Abdelkader. All while rarely having a first round pick. I'd say it's a pretty successful model to follow but few teams have the management ability and scouting resources to do so.

Kronwall is the only one of those that I'd say that they took their time with. When they finally emerged isn't really the point.

I also don't consider guys like Abdelkader or Helm to be high-end talent. They're NHL players, some of them more decent than others, but considering that everyone touts them as some star factory because they take their time, I just don't see that as the case.

They can pick their noses, play in the all-star game of practice with the Ducks for all I care.

My point isn't deciding what to do with them when they have time off, my point is are they gaining anything by playing in the NHL at 8 -10 minutes a game.

Now at least of late this isn't the case as Etem and Vatanan are getting pretty good NHL ice time. My overall concern is rushing them along. But honestly at this point I can't complain, both have played a good amount and havent looked out of place.

I'm just going to always be someone who wants the Ducks to take things slow with our prospects. I hate rushing kids along because more often than not it doesn't go well in the long run.

Practice and playing games or two different things. You want prospects to have lots of ice time. Less than ten minutes per game in the NHL isn't going to help them develop faster and in some cases it hurts player development. Send etem and sami back to Norfolk.

Then you need a better first line. kidding. Haven't watched any duck games too later a start. Admirals are sorely lacking offense production need some playmakers.

Big night for the AHL goons. PL3 was 1+2, and Rosehill with the gordie howe (supersized with an extra goal for good measure).

Brittain had the other goal in a 4-1 win.

He got a shutout in a Olympic qualifing match against Ukraine. He basically won the game for Denmark. Playing really solid.

Jesus, they blew a 3:0 lead after two periods. On the positive side, Peter Holland with 1 G and he was +2. Maroon with 1g+1a and Vatanen with 1a.

What the hell is wrong down there?

I don't know what's wrong down there, but Maroon keeps making me want him on our 4th line.

Maroon-Rakell-Etem

Edit: I think it's time to fire this Trent Yawney guy. Don't like the way he runs the team
