This is the most absolutely insane rationalization I've ever heard to defend a diver of skinner's magnitude.
Feel free to watch Skinner on a more consistent basis. He's a treat to watch when those moves work, but when they don't, he looks foolish. Then he responds with some childish act afterwards (either *****ing to the ref or slashing the defender that he couldn't get around).
But he doesn't dive nearly as much as he's getting a reputation for.
If you ever stepped foot on the ice and were a proficient skater and have been slewfooted, you know when you're slewfooted.
I've been on the ice when guys had to be separated because one thought he had been slewfooted, when in fact it was just innocent boardwork and their legs got tangled.
It's really not hard to get the wrong impression when you're operating in small corners and both guys end up hitting the ice hard.
The video definitely shows that it wasn't clear cut "he definitely did it!"... but at the same time, Patrice Bergeron is just one of those players who doesn't fly off at the handle. Especially over incidental contact.
Call me a homer but if he says he got slew footed, then he did.
With that said, not even close to being worthy of suspension.
It didn't look like a slew foot to me, but Bergeron probably thought it was and that's why he was so upset. Nothing should come of it. And Bergeron will see the replay and realize it wasn't as bad as he thought in the moment.

Just using Logic and math here, but that video is over a year old. So, maybe Marchand has not done it since? Which would mean he has stopped. Which means he's allowed to comment on it?
But hey, I guess it's wrong for a Murderer to speak up and say that murder is wrong.
If players get suspended for hitting players in the head even if there is no injury, then this POS Skinner should get suspended. Slewfoots could cause head injuries, you know, and Skinner is definitely a repeat offender of them.
Marchand even says that they were warned before the start of the game about Skinner and slewfoots.
So Bergeron ends up on the ice, sees that it's Skinner, and flips the **** out. But Bergeron is wrong: it wasn't a slewfoot. Just Skinner falling after battling with Bergeron in a tight space.
I love it when the Bruins play the Canes. Their styles are so wildly different (physical, slow it down vs. speedy faster paced) and the players are starting to develop a hatred of each other. If we meet in the playoffs this year... oh boy.

well if they talked about it before the game, its pretty possible bergeron freaked as soon as he saw it was skinner and went after him assuming it was a slewfoot. watching the replay, it wasnt nearly as bad as i thought it would be. hardly pronounced, though another angle would help. the kid skates bowlegged and it looks like he just grabbed bergeron to get by and failed. didnt look like a pronounced slewfoot. not from that angle anyway.
i wouldnt call skinner an innocent guy at all. im a canes fan and assumed this would be blatant because the kid is immature and loves getting under peoples skin. just dont see it on this play, i think bergeron and the B's are going off reputation more than the actual play here.
There are many many players in the league that "freak" in given situations and go off. However, I can assure you Patrice Bergeron is not one of those players. One of the classiest players on the ice.
You can't always use a players reaction as a gauge, but in this situation you can bank on the fact that for Bergeron to get as fired up as he was at the end of the game, Skinner definitely did something cheap.
For sure, it's well known he has a bad habit of doing that.
You mean the one time he's done it? He slewfoot Orlov and was rightly warned by the league not to do it again. But apparently, now teams are talking before the game about Skinner and are going to cry to the refs anytime Skinner comes near them.

Or Bergeron thought he did something cheap, because they discussed it before the game. So his mindset wasn't "Oh, it's a fight along the boards that turned wrong", it's "Man, we talked about this before the game and he slewfoots me!". Does no one know the phrase "self-fufilling prophecy"?
Skinner does pull Bergeron down in awkward way well after the puck is gone. From the limited video we have of it it is hard to tell if it is a slewfoot, but it does look like he puts an arm in front of Bergeron to pull him down while he is falling(or diving) and takes out his legs.
Bergeron had gone that nuts twice before. When he was bitten by that pos Burrows, and when Gorges targeted his head(not long after he came back from a concussion). Pair Bergerons reaction with Skinners reputation for slewfooting guys and I think it's obvious it was a slewfoot, or a similar equally dangerous play.
I didn't think it was a sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwww foot. I think Skinner lost his balance and was going down and just grabbed the first thing by him (Bergeron) and took him down with him.
So in Bergeron's mind, it felt like a slewfoot. When in fact Skinner fell down (from the contact FROM Bergeron), and their legs got tangled, taking Bergeron with him.
Why is everyone assuming that Bergeron didn't make a mistake, especially since he couldn't see the play?
This made me laugh, maybe you should get yourself together before you comment on somebody else shet..
