Congo DR got off to a great start but since Mali have equalized Congo DR have not been a threat to their goal. Mali's experience at this level should be enough to get them through

professional performance by Mali to advance to the QF, they started off slow but once they equalized they were never really put under much pressure. Ghana meanwhile with an easy 3:0 victory over Niger to win the group

GROUP B
1. Ghana 3 2 1 0 6:2 +4 7
2. Mali 3 1 1 1 2:2 4

3. Congo DR 3 0 3 0 0 3
4. Niger 3 0 1 2 0:4 1

First set of QF matchups now known

Ghana vs. Cape Verde
South Africa vs. Mali

both Group C matches are scoreless at the half, neither have been great. Zambia are pushing for a goal but can't break down Burkina Faso while Nigeria-Ethiopia has been a poor match, Ethiopia is probably playing the better football of the two but neither creating chances

2nd penalty for Moses

Sisay gets sent off (2nd yellow)

2:0 Moses again (the defender almost saved it )

Ethiopia played well, in fact better than Nigeria imo but once they conceded the first penalty they fell apart. Nigeria really have to improve if they intend to compete for the title, they haven't impressed.

Meanwhile Burkina Faso held Zambia to a scoreless draw which means they win the group and advance to the quarters for the first time since 1998

GROUP C
1. Burkina Faso 3 1 2 0 5:1 5
2. Nigeria 3 1 2 0 4:2 5

3. Zambia 3 0 3 0 2:2 3
4. Ethiopia 3 0 1 2 1:7 1

So far in Groups A-C there have been three teams who didn't lose but are out

Quarterfinal matchups pretty much set even with Group D matches still to play

South Africa vs. Mali
Ivory Coast vs. Nigeria
Burkina Faso vs. Togo/Tunisia
Ghana vs. Cape Verde

top half much stronger than the bottom, no excuses now for Ghana

I actually wrote early on that Burkina Faso had a nice team. But most of their players come from L1? so I'm not surprised to have been alone on that...

Burkina Faso are one of those teams who are always there but never get out of the group, in fact this was the first time they did so since 1998

I wouldn't even say they are a Ligue 1 dominated side, not even close to a team like Mali for example. They do have some good players like Pitroipa (Rennes), Traore (Lorient), Kabore (Marseille) and two Kone's (one Lyon, one Evian)...but they also have players in their starting lineup from Moldovan league, Belgian 2nd division and Egypt which haven't been playing domestic matches for months

I haven't been able to catch any of the games. Mainly because of the time difference. Any American network that carries this tournament?

ESPN3

ESPN Deportes (maybe even ESPN2, but still not yet confirmed) will show the final I think

But their main players are good L1 players. Mostly unkown to non L1 followers but well known here. Traore scored two of the 3 best goals of the year this season (both in the same game).

flat opening by Tunisia in a must win game and Togo take advantage of it, probably slightly offside their goal. Tunisia need to win to advance, if results hold it will be a Togo/Burkina Faso QF

Slimani is still a failure

* hoping Kolo Touré tackles him hard so we dont see him for the rest of this game *

Tunisia equalize on a penalty kick, Togo defender basically rubgy tackled a player in the box on a set piece, correct call

So many penalty kicks in this tournament, many more than the Euro's
