Last I checked the name on the back was Garrisson not Salo.
Salo in our lineup, along with Henrik, meant a huge winning percentage. There were intangibles about Salo, or at least, things that weren't noticed including his size, heart, leadership and defensive ability.
Concerning Garrisson, let's not Barry Pederson the guy.
He is what he is, and anything else we need that Salo had let's replace it with someone else or do something different and not expect to be a clone or a carbon copy. He can't possibly be an exact fit to fill the void we lost in the Finnish McGinnis.
There is a problem and it's that we have 2 RH dmen and need a 3rd - who among our 4 LH dmen can play the right side effectively?
- Hamhuis never has
- Garrison we don't know but was obviously not comfortable with it or they would have tried him.
- Edler was never a great defensive dman on the left side so not sure what the plan was there...
- Ballard "apparently" was terrible
I thought for sure their plan this summer was to re-sign Salo, sign Garrison and move Ballard.
FWIW (not much), its always been my impression to play the off-side you need to have good footspeed and an above avg. hockey IQ. Maybe when Kes is back we can try Burr there?

I am happy to have hockey back; I don't need to win the cup this week. Lets just win our division, and have slow but steady improvement for the next couple of months.

As many have already pointed out, it's 6 games into a shortened season, without a proper training camp or preseason, with several players coming off injury (and some still injured), so it may take a while to get to form.
Not to mention the Canucks had the least amount of guys playing during the lockout.
If the team is still this rusty in 2-3 weeks, I'm sure many will join you on the ledge.
Jeff patterson and blake price were blabbing on about how horrible this start was and that it was the worst start under av. I asked patterson on twitter what year the worst start was.... he typed back "10-11"
I don't think there is any reason to be concerned about Garrison in particular based on what we have seen so far. It's the defense on a whole has struggled because we always need one left side guy to play the right side. So far nobody has looked good enough on the right side to stick there so we continue to get the experimentation that has been going on the last couple games.
It's unfortunate that we have to be sorting this out when the schedule is so compact and there's so little time to practice and iron out these kinks before you are playing another key game. You can see the success of the teams where their core is healthy and has good existing chemistry, like the Sharks and Hawks.
I still think to get the most out of this defense we will need to switch out one of our left side defense men (Ballard) for one that thrives on the right side.
