The Islanders were a dynasty THIRTY YEARS AGO. Do you even realize how long that is??

3/4 of this forum weren't even born yet, and you think this somehow disqualifies them for being mentioned for worst suffering franchise?

Do you even remember who Mike Milbury was? Do you remember Yashin, or perhaps Charles Wang's interference? Or their relocation? Oldest arena in the league? DiPietro?

The list goes on. There really isn't any question. Minnesota? Winnipeg? The only reason they are mentioned is the loss of their franchise and that wrong has been righted so wha telse do they got? Not much. Just a lack of a championship. You don't garner sympathy for not having a cup no matter how long you've waited because there's only one team who wins that award and that's Toronto.

I agree with everything you said, but NVMC isn't the oldest arena in the league. It definitely is the *********, though.

You're right. We'll stick to "Crappiest".

Sorry Isle fans.

Columbus fans are surely suffering, but when it comes to cumulative suffering over time I have to give it to to the Islanders.

But they are only 13 years old. Half of that streak is moot because that's how long it takes on average for an expansion team to start being competitive.

The Islanders haven't won a playoff series in 20 years.

Bills and Sabres fan since 1980, the early 90's were heart breaking as a Bills fan, but these last 10 years have been far more brutal. Same old song every year, with no hope at all.

The way the Sabres lost game 6 of the finals was just icing on the cake. I'm starting to get a sinking feeling with the Sabres too. They have an amazing owner, but I'm petrified his fan boy syndrome will keep him from making the decision to fire Ruff if necessary.

Ruff is a great coach, but it really seems like there is too much complacency with this team. Too many uninspiring performances in the last few years, very frustrating.

Never said it disqualified them but in my opinion just having a championship just one is better than not having one. You have no argument out of me about how bad Islander fans have had it espicy with Wang in charge, but at least they can say that they had one of the greatest runs in NHL history.

Just because Minnesota and Winnipeg got teams back it doesn't magically make things ok. The emotional pain of losing a franchise has to be the worst feeling in sports for a fan. Ask Thrasher fans how they feel two years removed from losing their team and they will tell you how much it hurts. Yeah we got teams back but the wounds are still there. Many Wild fans would still rather have the North Stars than the Wild.

Other than a couple of playoff apparences and a surprise run to the WCF in 03 the wild have been mediocre wit poor management in Doug Risebrough. Never bad enough to get sure things draft picks and never good enough to get to the playoffs. Only now after Chuck Fletcher revived this team has the Wild have any glimmer of hope. And before the Wild the North Stars had many years of bad teams and lost in two Stanley Cup finals so yeah I think Minnesota deserves a mention here.

If it weren't for Wang, that team would have moved a long time ago. He has done everything he can to keep the team on LI and has lost millions and millions of dollars on this team. Mike Francesa put it best, "Wang has lost his shirt with the team. Buuuuut, to be fair. He does have a lot of shirts."

[QUOTE=13th Floor;58606417]But they are only 13 years old. Half of that streak is moot because that's how long it takes on average for an expansion team to start being competitive.

Islander's fans are winning me over somewhat especially in light of DiPietro and other contracts including some pretty bad trades.

The thing people are not taking into account in Columbus in addition to loosing is the Drafting, player development, and acquisitions. Yeah they are only 13 years old but compare their draft history, player development, free agent acquisition, and player retention to any other team over that 13 year period and no one is even close to how bad these fans have it.

Islanders, Oilers, Buffalo, Toronto all have legitimate first line players at least in several positions and a prospect pool that at least has 3 or 4 elite prospects. Columbus is a team full of 3rd line players. Before anyone says Johansen, Murray, Atkinson, Bobrovsky you need only look at the history of the franchise to suspect that these will be the next Nash, Zherdev, Kelsa, Carter stories.

All these franchises have had their ups and downs but not one of them is even close to the abysmal pit of hellish despair that Columbus fans have been thorugh.

13 years is a long time.

Tell that to fellow expansion teams Nashville and Minnesota.

Buffalo.

No pro franchise has ever won a championship for the city. The fans are hard core, knowledgable, and decent when you go into their barn.

Don't think it is even close.

Vancouver Canucks.

The only fans to watch their team lose Game 7 of the cup finals and then get beat up by their own cops in the same day.

Hate to bring up Cleveland again, but the Bills' last championship was more recent than anything the city of Cleveland has managed (1948 for the Indians, 1964 for the Browns, never for the Cavs).

I don't think you can be "undeservingly" beat up when you decide to trash your own downtown in a fit of rage...twice.

IMO, Toronto fans have it worse for a so-called big team, and Columbus fans for a small team. Both have had bouts of terrible management, sub-par play and flat out bad luck and their fans are constantly looked down upon on HFboards.

The Islanders haven't won a playoff series in my LIFETIME and I'm in college (and it's not like i'm a genius or anything )

The Blue Jackets have only been around for 12 years and at least the first four can be due to the growing pains of an expansion team. I don't consider being a fan of a bad expansion team to be true suffering. Now of course after a certain amount of time the CBJ have sucked due to ineptitude rather than being an expansion but not for as long as Islander fans.
