Pleks line was downright lethal. Buzzing all night with Bourque dominant and Gionta winning battle after battle. Bourque being on the ice for the last minute shows how much Therrien trusts and believes in the guy, totally shuts up his detractors.
Galchenyuk looked like he was not only NHL level but elite. No one could touch him and Gallagher has a snipers shot. Prust is incredible, tough, mean, nasty and still an exceptional player.
Cole looked better but still not the net rushing powerforward from last year. DD looked pretty bad almost every play, outmuscled and seemed to have forgotten what got him to the dance in the first place. He isn't playing like the DD we all know. Eller didn't do anything that stood out, didn't use his size and made some messy passes.
Markov looked incredible as usual, Diaz is a good compliment to him on the powerplay. Kaberle was also dangerous on the powerplay and I can't wait to see him with Subban. Kabs passes were on the money each time and made our transition fast and dangerous every time! Boullion was rocking it with less TOI, seemslike the perfect 3rd pairing guy and our defensive depth is impressive. Emelin is getting back to his smart, safe hard hitting ways which helped in many ways, still not the best with the puck but that is ok.
Price was his usual rock solid, nothing too crazy from him tonight just solid when it counted.
Not to discredit the excellent run the team is on right now, but I can't wait 'til next season. We're lucky to be able to but both Gallys into their first NHL seasons in a half season. Instead of burning out, they'll play their 40 games, and next year the team is going to be a serious cup contender.
Gally - Gally - Cole
Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Deshairnais - Eller - Prust
Armstrong - White - Moen
Markov - Subban
Gorges - Emelin
Kaberle - Diaz
Line up I'd like to see, although I doubt Subban slots with Markov that fast, especially with how well Diaz has played.
I doubt Subban slots with Markov... ever. Well, not ever, but with Emelin as a natural (and seemingly effective) ES partner, and Diaz as a productive PP partner, it would probably take a prolonged slump in either of those areas for Therrien to toss Subban and Markov out there at the same time on the regular instead. Maybe the odd PK, who knows, but having those two guys anchor two separate pairings is the best way to go, imo - assuming their partners are up to the task, of course.
Yeesh, no idea what Therrien was thinking on that last powerplay. Putting out Bouillon-Gorges and then following it up with Emelin? That smacked of Martin's "protect the lead" style and we almost got burned.
Not a great game by any means. DD was awful again, why not sit him and try Eller at centre? I know Eller hasn't done anything to deserve a promotion but he's a black hole on the wing. Why waste 2 centres?
Best and most consistent players were clearly the "second" line (Pleks' line). Everyone else was really up and down, defense and Price included. I think we're going to be in tough tomorrow against Ottawa, but at least they played tonight too.
