Blaming Callahan for this = Stupid. Still thinking firmly that he is = Willfully Stupid.

Blaming Talbot with intent = Even more stupid.

Cally reacted exactly as he should've. I don't want no ***** for a captain. Talbot, in no way did it with intent. I think if he is to be accused of anything it is carelessness, for the awkward ways in which he was grabbing and tugging on the arm. But I don't think for the second he thought it would have that outcome. See, the thing with hindsight is that you have all the time in the world. But in real time, with screaming fans and an adrenalized Cally coming after him, it wasn't about thinking; just reacting. But the twists, tugs and off balance pressure most definitely did a job to Cally's arm. It looks like it poppped just before they started going down to the ice. When they finally were down, Cally said something and Talbot immediately stopped, gave cally a love tap, and signaled to the Rangers bench. He in no way wanted to hurt him, he just didn't want to get hurt himself either, so was tugging and pulling at Cally just to try to gain advantage. But not in a malicious way, just in a split second "****, his arm is all I've got and I ain't lettin go or he'll friggin pummel me!" type of way.

But regardless, it is what it is, and what it is; at the moment, does not appear to be very good. The way Cally leaned towards his left as he skated off, shoulder low, couldn't raise his arm up at all, not to mention the way it even looked weird in the sweater, and I think we're undoubtedly looking at some sort of 6-8 weeks or more type of shoulder injury. I hope to hell I'm wrong, but Cally's reaction said it all to me. His expressions, gestures and demeanor along with the urgency of his leaving seemed to all point to him knowing that something real was wrong, and something really not very good. But I anxiously await the injury report, and hope it turns out to be another stepan ankle magical surprise.

I could see it not being malicious, but I can't see where it's "something that happens in a hockey fight." 20 years watching this sport, I've never seen that in a fight.

Well somebody has to. Gee whiz. People are still crucifying Phaneuf for a clean hit on Sauer and yet this is just peachy

Right to the point here. Just to add to the awkwardness of the play Callahan is lifting Talbot's leg trying to take him down.

I've seen thousands of arms grabbed. Not like that. He grabbed hold of it with both arms and hung onto it almost like an MMA maneuver. No, I've never seen that.

watching the replay its hard to not notice that it looks like the shoulder is way out of where it should be, even with the jersey being baggy

i don't think talbot did some secret mma move that he knew would dislocate callys shoulder but i do think cally shouldn't have dropped them with a guy who in my eyes has done nothing and is an ahl player apart from scoring the pens cup winning goals and then getting a bigger than warranted contract from the flyers

i am just hopefull its better than it looks and he isn't out a long time

Callahan hurting himself in the fight reminded me when Sheldon Souray picked his pocket with Iginla, was injured due to pouncing Iginla's head and out for the majority of the season and hurt his team in the long run. I don't think it was necessary to fight there, which is why I'm angry. Even if he didn't get injured, I didn't want the team's momentum to be ruined. Guess you can add injury to insult.

Call me crazy but I think we could make it through without Cally pretty well. We can all honestly say Callahan's ES play has been FAR from strong so far this year. Leadership and special teams would be the biggest holes needed to be filled and I think leadership runs deep on this team. If Kreider can get 100% and play top 6 minutes then that would be huge. I understand at this point it's a big if but we say many flashes of his brilliance in the playoffs. Getting Ferriero is looking like a huge move if Kreids can come up because we wouldn't have to move any players up to a line where they don't fit.

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Gabby
Ferriero-Boyle-Pyatt
Asham-Halpern-Rupp

Sure this is far from ideal but Hags was getting to pucks well tonight and could work well fetching pucks for the Richie/Nash combo. This second line worked well in the playoffs. We know Stepan and Gabs have chemistry and this could get Step going again. Big thing is the bottom 6 doesn't have to change and we don't have to call up Newbs or have Bickel play forward.

Maybe that was because he was being lifted and tackled. If anyone is at fault here, it's Callahan.

I'm not gonna bother fighting with people who want to villainize Talbot simply because of the jersey he wears. Cally's injury is what matters, and no one has any clue how serious it is, so all this talk is pointless. In the meantime though, feel free to see whatever you want to make the big bad Flyer out to be evil.

Callahan's played like garbage this year anyways. Not a big loss in my eyes.

And in the meantime you can keep blaming Callahan for defending his teammates. I guess you must really miss the team we had a couple of years back that stood there and watched while Carcillo assaulted Gaborik. Fun times.

After finally seeing the video (missed the 3rd period) and having a sports medicine background, that does not look good.

Hate to speculate, but that what happened is probably the best way to dislocate a shoulder. The way Callahan reacted as well definitely leads me to believe he dislocated it, since when most people dislocate a shoulder, they react like he did and hold it just like that. I believe it was his left shoulder, and if that's the case, it's worse, as it would be his top hand on his stick (Cally is a righty I believe).

The shoulder is a very unstable joint, so any kind of dislocation can be very damaging, depending on the severity of course. On the mild side, you are looking at a week or two. Worst case scenario, could be about 3 months. Again, worse case scenario.

Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks.

@DaveLozo: Talbot on Callahan incident: "We decided to go and we were holding each other up and
his shoulder popped out or something. Unfortunate."

@DaveLozo: More from Talbot on Callahan: "I let him go. I kind of felt it, but then I saw his face as well."
