I'm a fan of RBM, the team where they played, and i said after the first game of them, that the Avs or the Jets should trade for one of these two players. Great chemistry on and off the ice...

If we sign O'Reilly, Stastny is available.

Trading Stastny would benefit Colorado Avalanche and Paul Stastny.

Change of scenery would be good for Stastny.

I'd like Stastny in St. Louis but not sure we could take that contract.

We'd probably have a better shot at him as a UFA with him being from here and knowing some of the guys here already rather then trying to trade for him.

Yeah, what a horrible contract. 6.6mil for another 1.5 seasons for a guy that was playing P/G at the time of signing and hasn't shown any diminishment in his offensive abilities.

For shame Avs, for shame.

Once O'Reilly is signed its likely Stasny is moved.

He doesnt have much left on his contract (unlike Luongo). 2013-14 is the final year so a deadline trade and have him for this year then next year isnt all that much of a risk. Its actually worth more to have him for two playoff runs than to just have him for only one season next year. By prorating the salary from the dealine he may be owed 1/5 of the $6+ million of his contract then next year. 2 playoff runs for about $8M or 1 playoff run for $6M. Had he had 4 yrs left on the contract he would be immoveable and likely candidate for the mulligan of a contract.

The bottom line is that at some point, one of Duchene, Stastny or O'Reilly need to be traded for an improvement on D.

Right now with O'Reilly's contract ugliness, it won't be him.

Duchene won't be traded because this kid bleeds Blue and Burgundy and still hasn't even finished becoming that elite #1C

Stastny is the most logical answer right now. He's not as flashy and explosive as Duchene and he's not as great defensively as O'Reilly but he's always playing a quiet, consistent game that a lot of the time gets overlooked by fans. He's our best playmaker and he has great hockey IQ, he's just been given the Sundin treatment in terms of wingers the past couple seasons.

Also, people keep whining about his ugly contract, but in all likeliness the Avs will retain some of his salary if a deal is done, especially if it's to a team with limited cap.

The Avs have plenty of cap space, so his salary is pretty much irrelevant with the new cap-trading rule.

I'm amazed he managed to score two assists playing with a no show (Jones) and a guy who can't hit anything but the goal post (McGinn).

Winnipeg wouldn't be able to offer any of what Colorado needs as we're holding onto our top 4 defensemen (Enstrom+Byfuglien+Bogosian+Trouba).
honest question:

How do you know about their chemistry? Have you seen them play in Germany?

Toronto, but whatever...

To Colorado:

Phaneuf
Bozak

To Toronto:

Stastny
S.Elliot/R.Wilson

Neither team eats salary because contracts are equally bad.

Blues would likely be interested if Colorado eats some salary.

Unfortunately, we wouldn't be interested in dealing established many roster players at the present time.

Pieces that might, in my opinion alone, be available for Statsny, depending on the deal and just how much salary Colorado would be willing to eat:

Cole
Schwartz
D'Agostini
Rattie
Jaškin
Schmatlz
Lehtera (? if he'll come over for less than a garunteed roster spot, but looks like a good offensive center in the KHL)
2013 STL 1st
2013 STL 2nd
2013 OTT 2nd
other picks that don't really have much value

It would be predicated on the Avalanche eating some salary. The OP mentioned $1.5 M. I'd want them to eat more. What they get in return depends on how much salary they eat.

I would do that, but I don't Elliott would go back the other way. Wilson is good, but seems like he will top off as a solid 5th-7th, you're better to get either SOB or ROB back.

Didn't the Blues just get new owners? Why is a couple mil such a big deal for 1-1.5 years?

I think Stastny's just having a tough stretch, and it's being compounded by his linemates, or lack thereof. Probably get roasted by my fellow Hawk fans...but I'd give Hjalmarsson, Teravainen/Saad/Pirri+2nd, and something inconsequential beyond that, to get Stastny. We need a bona fide 2nd line center, and we have the talent to surround him with to make him exactly that. Then we can keep Bolland no the third line where he belongs...shutting down the other team's top line.

Keep in mind that Statz's numbers dropping coincide with the hiring of an awful coach with a "system" that is beyond terrible. Colorado should keep Statz and send Sacco packing unless someone comes with a great deal ie: a pending UFA/RFA potential 1 or 2 Dman who is young enough to build around.
