Not awful, but definitely not enough to pry Vanek away. Would take a stud prospect and a 1st, imo.

no thank you from Montreal's POV.
We'll keep our first.
Gallagher has been good and Beaulieu
will be as well.
Vanek is great but, with salary cap, not
going to happen.

We are rebuilding (and happening to stay competitive at the same time so far)

That package is not even kind of tempting. Especially not to send our division rival.

obviously buffalo loses this trade, they can get better value for Vanek but i dont see why the habs would do this also. We're better off keeping our first and Gallagher has been great for us so far

Nope from the habs don't want to trade Beaulieu and our 1st.

Gallagher is looking like a nhler right now so why trade him?

Beaulieu is not stud prospect but he is a good prospect with high upside he could turn on to be a 1st pairing two way dman. Way too much upside to give him up now.

Yeah, out of the Two teams it would be Montreal who would say no

Thomas Vanek is going no where. Thomas Vanek is one of 4 active NHL players (Ovechkin, Jagr, Kovalchuk) to score 25+ goals in each of his first 7 seasons. That package isn't even worth half of Vanek.

Yeah, every team should trade one of the top five scorers since the last lockout, who's playing at over point per game for a first and scraps.

As a habs fan I don't want vanes and is 7.14 million cap hit .. Galagher will be good and Beaulieu will be a stud on defence ... And a 1 round pick specially that we don't even have to finish last to draft 1 overall just don't make the the playoff and we can still draft 1 overall ... So no thank with this deal

Not that the deal is fair, but... calling Beaulieu and Gallagher scraps is just proving you don't even know who they are.

You don't that, Marcus Foligno who's so great with his 3 points in 6 games ? Gallagher has 4 points in 4 games.

Essentially, you're calling Mark Pysyk and Foligno scrubs...

Habs say no just because of the cap

Educate yourself before calling Gallagher and beaulieu scraps. As for the first in this years draft, that is nothing to scoff at either. Not the best value for vanek but don't act like you're giving him for nothing.

The Habs are not in a win now position. They are mini rebuilding to be a contender within 3 years.

This trade does not meet the Habs plans at all.

By the time we are ready to compete with the best, Vanek will be pushing the mid 30's while Gallagher and Beaulieu will be established players on their way to promising careers.

And let's not forget what will assuredly be a decent high pick in a very deep draft.

No thank you from the Habs!

Maybe in a vacuum (and that's questionable, too), but it's not enough to send him to a division rival. Gallagher may turn into a nice player--he likely won't maintain this pace, obviously--but why does Buffalo want to acquire another 5'8'' player when we already have Ennis and Gerbe? We're not trying to build a sideshow hockey team. Beaulieu is a good prospect, but he's just more of what Buffalo already has in its system (even if a better version): mobile, puck-moving defenseman. The Sabres, right now, are more interested in a Tinordi-type. Finally, the 1st rounder is enticing, especially if Montreal starts losing, but the other pieces make it a no-go.

I think if Buffalo moves Vanek prior to the expiration of his contract, it's to a Western Conference team, anyways. Regier won't keep him in the division.
