Seriously, he should be ready for a starting gig but Niemi is still under contract for 3 more years. By then, our ample supply of young G prospects (Sateri, Stalock, etc)will be ready. He should be moved elsewhere to get playing time.
I'm expecting similar to the Lindback package for him.

Things is he won't get playing time here. Bryz needs to play a lot of games and I as well as many other flyers fans think last years was just a really bad season and he'll bounce back. That's why they got rid of bob.
Its not just me.. seeing Michael Leighton in a Flyers uniform conjures up the worst of bad memories for us Flyers' fans.
The scenario is totally perplexing to me as to why Holmgren would resign Leighton to be the backup to Bryz. Given Illya's inconsistency last year and his mediocre play in the KHL I dreaded the start to this season.
Bryzgalov has been good so far this season but if something were to happen, the space cadet leaves the stratosphere, I DO NOT want Leighton being given the reigns again or honestly.. even starting a game to spell Bryz.
Hes garbage and has no right to be an NHL goaltender.
The Flyers also have Boucher in the AHL playing for the Phantoms, this is not an ideal situation either.
So that being said..
Philadelphia needs a solid backup goaltender.. With a little upside.
Who is available? What would it take?
Not looking for high end prospects like Schneider or Bernier, either.

i wouldn't mind Greiss, but the flyers probably aren't willing to give up what it'd take to get him, when a guy like Bishop, who may not be as effective but is still competent, could likely be had for less.

ha ha......... I wish that weren't an issue for Boston!
I think he's at a stage in his career where he's going to want a legitimate chance somewhere. We'll see how Rask handles things over the long haul. If Rask can stay healthy and is the guy, I think Khudobin is going to look for a change.
Steve Mason? It would allow the Jackets to bring up McIhenney.
Let's not be absurd. McElhinney's being kept in Springfield because he gives the farm team a chance to win. Which is a Good Thing For Development.

Sweet Holy G-d No ****ing Way.
Steve Mason so far: GAA 4.06, SV% .879. "Incredibly Bad."
Michael Leighton so far: GAA 5.07, SV% .808. "Incomprehensible Catastrophe."
Steve Mason, NHL career: age 24, 221GP, GAA 2.90, SV% .903. "Not Good."
Michael Leighton, NHL career: age 31, 105GP, GAA 2.97, SV% .901. "Not Any Better."
I'm not sure how one can presume that the grass is somehow greener on the other side once it's been set on fire.
EDIT: Oh, and while we're at it...
Curtis McElhinney, NHL career: age 29, 69GP, GAA 3.10, SV% .899. "Somehow Even Worse."

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
as a CBJ fan I'd probably be more than willing to take Leighton back in a swap for Mason
Really? I've always been interested in taking in Steve Mason hoping a relocation might help him out. Obviously we'd have to add with Leighton. What else would you be interested in?

I know its not Flyers fans fault but why the **** did you trade Bob in the first place?
they wanted to double down on bryxgalov. bob was thought to be the goalie of the future and he needed starts. he was no longer waiver exempt and with the load bryz wants he wouldnt see enough time. better to give him a chance at success elsewhere. after searching for a goalie for such a while they didnt want any doubt that was thier guy. i think they really think of whats goin on in vancouver as a problem
I was aware, but this kind of goal happen also to good goalies (well, with a lesser frequency i guess!).
That goal happened like 6 times during that entire playoff run. Boucher included.
Both of them got torched regularly. BOTH of them let in some of the SOFTEST goals the league has ever seen.
I would take this proposal even further as to say the Flyers are lacking organizational depth at Goaltender throughout their entire prospect tunnel.
Other than Bryzgalov there is not 1 single NHL caliber goaltender in the entire organiztion.
Cal Heeter, Scott Munroe, Anthony Stolarz and Brian Boucher "in the system."
Goodbye Joacim Erikson and whoever else I am forgetting that the Flyers have gaffed and let walk due to contract limits and waivers.
