Selanne also had great speed and skating. Guerin doesn't. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot poll. He might bounce back, but it's not worth the risk.

Depends on how much a risk, 1 - 1.5 mil is a risk i might take.

Doubtful Guerin would take it though.

He's not Selanne, who's speed and skating helped rejuvinate him in the "new NHL." If that effect was going to happen to Guerin, it would have already happened. And I was under the assumption that Guerin was older than Selanne, but they're the same age, so I was a little too harsh on his skating ability going forward.

At that price, it's a worthwhile risk for some team. But I'm afraid Hitch might put too much faith into him.

If he's "waived" then don't we have to pick up that ***** of a contract he's currently carrying?

He's being waived as a step in the buyout process, we did the same with Leclair and Amonte about a year ago. When he's bought out he'll be a UFA on july 1st.

I don't think Guerin is Selanne fast, but he did win a fastest skater competition at the all-star game a few years back beating Gagne. I know that doesn't say all that much, but the guy can skate.

I would certainly take a chance on Billy depending on the price. I'd rather have him on the team than say Nedved and he could come for a similar or cheaper price.

only for cheap... short contract... he'd also have to agree to something that stipulates he's not allowed to beat the crap out of AHL players.

A few years ago in a preseason intrasquad game he like crosschecked some minor league dude in the head. I don't remember if he proceeded to pummel him afterwards as well. I think he got a suspension.

Guerin is really fast. I think he won the fastest skater comp a couple years ago. Not Selanne fast but still.

Also, with Forsberg out til Jan, any additional scoring would be good. And his time in Boston showed what he can do with an elite center. I say sign him to a two year deal as cheap as you can.

Guerin did win the fastest skater but that was also like 4 years ago. He wasn't in the best of shape to begin with and is built much bigger, and does not move as well anymore. If he signs for cheap I'll take him, but he isn't worth risking a lot of cap room when we can give it to someone that has previously shown he is capable of playing a larger role on the team.

I wouldn't want this cancer walking around our locker room even as a towel boy. Guerin's no longer a plausible scoring threat in the new NHL.

agreed - he's the perfect player for the Flyers to stay away from. Big, overpaid, slow, and a total **** at the same time.

That being said I suspect the Flyers will sign him soon.
