Mats Zuccarello signing with the NYR

The NYR are getting thin up front. Arnott fell through, Cally down, Kreider still learning. Do you think the NYR look to sign Mats Zuccarello again? I heard him say he would only play for one NHL team, and that's the NYR.

I got the impression that he didn't enjoy his time with NYR and didn't think they gave him a fair shot.

Don't think he's going to want to come back.

He also signed with the KHL and I think the transfer agreement between the NHL and the KHL prohibits him from coming back to the NHL until his KHL contract expires (and vice versa). He signed a two year deal this past off-season IIRC.

I think he has a NHL-out-clause with Magnitka, but I don't see him coming over here anyway. The "best-case" solution for the NYR would be Hrivik, unfortunately he's injured too.

I recently read that the NYR were scouting/on the verge of signing a player in the Swiss league. Anybody aware of who that player was? Ugh. I can't find the link.

no he does not. KHL contracts dont include NHL out clause. Yes, he can terminate/buy out contract as ROR, Kucherov etc did, but he definitelly does not have out clouse.

he has contract for next season.

I fail to see why some Ranger fans don't see him for what he is. If Ranger brass and the coach felt he could contribute, he would be on the team.

The Rangers did qualify him and kept his rights. Maybe it was nothing more than keeping an asset but I tend to think they did want to bring him back...he was earning a spot in the lineup late last year until he broke his wrist. Really just unfortunate timing for him

Also the reason he will "play for the Rangers or no one" in the NHL is because the Rangers hold his RFA rights.

Fair enough. I'm sure you've heard my feelings on him enough, Lev.

Hopefully it's that kid that was tearing it up for the Swiss.

Zuccarello salary in Rangers (Connecticut) was pocketmoney compared to what he is earning now..

In US dollars, i think his salary now is around 3m.. He wouldnt get anything near that in NYR or any other NHL team... I reckon he stays in russia untill he is unwanted.. Heck, hi got his team to pay his bestfriend 300.000 dollars a year just to follow him from Norway..

If Zuccarello was needed in New York he would have a contract.

Did the guy not sign a deal in the KHL with no out clause this yr? He can come back after the season in the KHL and next yr sign with the Rangers

Sadly with lack of depth and injuries he would be playing right now, Rangers reallyshould of gave him a cheap 1 yr NHL deal for depth

Doesn't that say more about the Rangers depth issues than it does about his play?

Why don't we claim Boychuk off waivers?

Or trade our 3rd for a depth guy or two.

Interesting. I am surprised that a team (NYR) didn't realize that he would become available. CAR is gonna lose him for nothing. The could have got a pick at least.

I don't get it. Maybe he isn't that good.

things change based on current needs. with the injuries to kreider and cally who knows.. found this which states zuc has an out clause with his khl contract.

Mats Zuccarello's recently signed one-year KHL deal includes an NHL out clause. The New York Rangers still hold his NHL rights.

after he signed with the K i remember reading slats still was interested in him and thus retained his rights... who knows!

Slats retained his rights because Slats doesn't like giving away assets for nothing.

and because if he returns to NHL he wants it to be with the rangers

Glen Sather told Larry Brooks in the NY Post that the decision to send a qualifying offer was simple, I understand he has to take the money over there but one day he might want to come back and I want it to be with us.

Sather said that he was impressed with how Zuccarello played upon being called up by the Rangers before he broke his wrist.

He has certain skills, but not enough NHL level speed to get separation to be effective. He is also challenged defensively against bigger, stronger skaters.

No need to burn a contract with his signing w.Rangers.
