I dunno. MT seems resolute in keeping his boy Franky B there for whatever reason. Emelin showed off a killer one timer last night, I want to see that on our PP!

If they continue playing like this, doubt we can resign both of them.
Emelin, Diaz, and Markov will all be UFA's at the same time, with PK's current deal running out then too. Beaulieu and Tinordi will be entering the last year of their ECL's too then. I'm sure lots will be resolved before then but it still makes for some interesting speculation in the next year and a half.

The PP is among the best in the NHL and he is doing well in a defensive role, why change?

a lot can happen in 2 seasons, but that sounds like a lot of headache coming for MB.

Why would it be a lot of headache? He can start negotiating extensions on July 1st, which he should do for any player he wants to keep around after 13-14.

If he sees Emelin and Diaz as core top 6 guys going forward then he should try and sign both to 2-3-4 year extensions next summer. The benefit of doing it then is that it's under a smaller cap and therefore any comparables signed next summer might be lower than summer 2012.

Still leading the league in hits with 28 in 5 games. He is the only one in the top 10 with 5 games played, the others have 6 or 7.

We should call him the Togliatti Tank!

This kid's hits are devastating. Finishing your check is one thing. This guy flattens you and makes you think twice next time.

Honestly, and this is completely a conspiracy theory, but I think Therrien is making him wear it, since he won't fight, because of the injury to his face.

All I've heard since camp is, "it's related to an injury from the KHL"

But I don't recall him getting injured lately, and the only one I can think of, is when he got his face, literally, beat in.

I know some people hated that he would lay these huge hits, and they'd come after him, and he'd turtle. I guess this is a way to show he won't be fighting?

again, completely opinion, but I havne't heard any other reasons as to why he needs it

I heard he got hit in the face by a puck during the lockout and has been wearing it ever since.

So he started wearing the cage in Russia as per Therrien's wishes?

Interesting, but doubtful.

Plus he got a puck in the face (the day after he finally took off his cage) during a scrimmage. I think we can take the tin foil hats off.

See, I didn't hear anything about a puck to the face while he was in the KHL.

I had also heard a few commentators commenting on it, and they weren't sure why he was wearing it either.

Well, I guess it'll be coming off soon then.

Emelin got elbowed in his face in the KHL. That's why he's wearing it, simple as that.

Both Stubbs and Godin have reported as much.

I like what therrien has done so far with the habs but one thing I would also like him to try is put emelin on the 2nd powerplay unit. I believe that he has more offensive potential then bouillon

Most impressive part of Emelin's hitting quantity is the he's in complete control as shown by his 0 minors this season and few minors last season. I can only imagine how entertaining his play would be if he goes all out reckless.
