A pop with the way Cally went down isn't too reassuring.

Ryan Callahan will undergo an MRI later this afternoon and itís possible the Rangers will release an update on the captainís status later today.

One thing is confirmed - it is Callahanís left shoulder that was injured as his arm was tugged down at the start of a scrap with the Flyersí Max Talbot in the third period of last nightís 2-1 win at Madison Square Garden.

Callahan skated directly to the dressing room in obvious pain.

Itís likely Callahan is undergoing the MRI to disclose the extent of the damage to the tendons and muscles with regards to a separated shoulder. Thatís certainly what appeared to happen as Callahan left the ice with his left arm dangling.

There are three levels of severity:
Type I: Strain of the supporting ligaments without tearing
Type II: Partial tearing of the supporting ligaments
Type III: Complete tearing of the supporting ligaments

Even if no surgery is required, itís possible the recovery time could be 6-8 weeks, again depending on the severity.

Also, again, itís not confirmed that Callahan has a separated shoulder, just that he injured his left shoulder.

If they both skate to the penalty box after a crappy fight or a wrestle we praise the captain for showing some emotion at the Garden... I think its a complete non-issue and monday-morning quarterbacking to say the least. Cally could have run into the side boards or blocked one of the 1,000 shots from the point he blocks each year and got injured just as easily.

This argument is crap, all due respect.

As far as Talbot injuring him? Thats ridiculous. Its a freak injury. Popped his shoulder out, dislocation probably. What concerns me is the length of time its taking to find out. Usually when you have a shoulder injury theyll take some X-rays making the patient hold a weight in that hand to see if theres any separation. I had to do that when i separated my shoulder. They may have wanted to go straight to the MRI and still looking at results. But who am I im no doctor.
Smartest post I've read on this thread so far.

Forget Cally !

F'in Mike Knuble, if he didnt try that wraparound, and then if Hagelin doesnt push two Flyers into Hank this would not have happened !!!

If Tortorella didn't play Bickel, Eminger would have been there to thwart the wraparound attempt.

I blame the Fehr. And Bettman. If they kept the lockout going, Cally would be healthy now.

Edit: I blame the Flyers, too. If they didn't sign Knuble, there wouldn't have been anyone on the roster capable of attempting a wrap-around, which lead to the inevitable.

So:

1. Fehr
2. Bettman
3. Flyers
4. Knuble
5. Knuble's agent
6. Global warming

And no ones said anything about the poor lineman who got a stick to the mouth in that scrum.

Interesting article by Gross.

A Separated shoulder is completely different from a dislocated shoulder. If you separate your shoulder you damage the ligament that connects your collarbone to your shoulder. Dislocated shoulder means your arm bone is moved from where it sits within the joint.

We should seriously hope it's a separated shoulder rather than a dislocation. A dislocation can cause a host of other issues with blood vessel damage and nerve damage in the joint and almost always means surgery.

Very good question!
I'm thinking it may mean it's not as serious as first thought?

Swelling may have to decrease to get a good picture.

Exactly. This is standard procedure with injuries like this. Waiting 24+ hours usually yields a clearer image of the actual damage.

Won't be good news.

Hating a guy for a cheap-hot is one thing, but for pulling on a guys arm in a mutual fight? Come on, they tug and pull on practically anything they can get a hold of in most fights, trying to get position. Look at Cally trying to lift Talbot's effin leg.

This sounds legit. Also, Hagelin's dumbness.

The a whole thread on the Trade Rumors board with proposals to replace him with John D'Amico or Ray Scapinello.
