If we trade Hemsky for a winger, I'd rather it was a LW so that Yakupov could move back to his natural position at RW. Drew Stafford would be a great pickup though, but I also don't think we could get Stafford for Hemsky (and I am in the "Hemsky is valuable" camp).

Janssen anyone!? he can still swing!

Zach Boychuk for the farm!? he is a steal.

can't send someone you picked off waivers to the farm.

If you pick them up, they need to be on your NHL roster. If they are not, the original team gets first dibs, and I believe can then send them directly to the AHL.

The different situation with the Finish goalie we picked up is that that was on a different type of waiver (purpose of mutual contract termination). That is a different scenario, but not relevant to the names you posted.

Pretty sure if we're claiming a player on waivers, he has to stay with the big club.

Anyone think Miller could be available at the deadline if Buffalo continues to struggle? What would you give up? How about:

To Buffalo:
Devan Dubnyk
David Musil
2012 1st round pick (10-20 range)

To Edmonton:
Ryan Miller
Robyn Regehr

Janssen is a d-bag, not really fond of adding a player like that although this team is softer than a roll of Charmin so that might make me re-think my initial response.

i would take zach boychuck in a second, i heard it straight from an nhl player that the only reason boychuck didnt stick with carolina 2 years ago was because of skinner, he said in his opinion of playing against both that boychuck was the overall better player,

that was just his opinion, and i doubt he knows more about the player than the hurricanes themselves but i would take a flyer on that kid.

Where do you play him? Yet another small forward? Yeah he's somewhat gritty, but Id rather try and pick up a player like Dalpe if we're talking Carolina.

well we haven't had any teams really running at our young guns yet but they will.

Cam Janssen isn't even 30 years old yet, he had a few good fights last season and even went toe to toe with big John Scott. He'll get Rexall place going.

Well, we need grit, and Dalpe isn't on waivers.

I saw Boychuk at a charity golf tournament in summer 2011, and he is just ripped. He landed 16 hits in 16 games playing a small amount of minutes for Carolina last season, and can skate well enough to establish a forecheck, unlike Petrell and Smyth.

We should pick him up to see if he can add some speed, energy, and competitiveness to our old, slow bottom 6. If he doesn't work out, just let him go again.

Why would Buffalo go for that?

Has there ever been a 'protected' pick traded in the NHL? I know it's common in the NBA.

Picking up Zach Boychuk will be like when the Oilers picked up Ryan Jones a few years ago.

In a year from now, we will all look at each other and say, why was this guy on waivers?

Boychuk > Dalpe

but I don't know where to play him on Edmonton, enough marshmallows.

exactly, he has the skating and sense to play bottom 6 minutes but he also has the offensive upside that he could play in your top 6 if there was injuries. he is harder than petrell would be if he was cast in stone.

I'd almost rather make a trade for Boychuk than claim him off waivers. A waiver claim means someone else needs to be waived to make room. We might be able to get back a pick or something if we send another player along.

I believe Boychuk was a center throughout junior (and maybe in the AHL too), but I think he played LW for the Hurricanes.

Boychuck was waived in favour of Drayson Bowman.

Something tells me Boychuck is the new Hamil or Valabik.

He is no better than Hordi.

If you wanted grit from those guys that got waived, you go with McLaren.

25 year old 6'5'' 250lb enforcer who can play a little.

Not saying we should, but he's the easy choice between Janssen and him for me.

Claiming Boychuk could pay off like the Jones signing a couple years ago. The only difference is that our forward corps isn't devastated by injuries this time around. If we were to claim him, we wouldn't have anywhere to put him on the roster.

But still, a line of Hartikainen/Boychuk/Paajarvi would be a solid possession line.

I say waive Hordichuk and look for a team to move Potter of Peckham to. Grab the Alberta kid and give him a shot.

The thing is waiving Hordi still does little as he doesn't even have a roster spot at this point.

Agreed, we need another 5'10, 175 lb forward for the top 6.
