Because Gay should help this team win more games this season and next AND all that MLSE wants is to win now.

Absolutely, a real professional and I was sad when he asked for a trade earlier, he will always be tied to Toronto and I hope he will be cheered and maybe a standing "O" when he returns.

I not sure about this trade, I think we gave up two pretty good players, I guess Gay is a pretty good player as well but can he put up the numbers that Davis and Calderon did.

Wooooooo I love it!! Fantastic trade. Sucks to see Jose go, but that's the price and what it takes to get a top 25 player.

DeRozan + Gay is going to be downright deadly.

Welcome to Toronto Rudy

I don't think this is true at all. MLSE would be completely fine with losing to build a dynasty if the GM came and laid out his plan.

BC must have had a good sell job on this one, and the MLSE BOG doesn't know a thing about basketball... so they'd be on board with whatever.

We did get the best player in the deal, its unlikely ED is ever as good as Gay, although I think he will be a good starter.

Only way BC makes this a good deal is if he can somehow move Fields+Bargs+Kleiza off the books... and goes hard this summer. But that would take the work of a genius... and BC is not that.

I just hope Gay can keep the good ball movement like we have been playing.

It would be nice to trade Demar for a good 4 man. Also Bargs for a backup PG.

Isn't calderon's contract up at the end of the season?

We could potentially bring him back as a free agent and flip lowry elsewhere. It's a lot of juggling of the lineup and trades to be made for it to happen but, who knows!

So I guess its pretty much official now.

Congrats on yet another horrible move BC. You have done well to ruin the Raptors over the years and I guess you will continue to do so.

Calm down. Holy **** man. It's not that bad of a trade.

Lowry and Gay are great friends apparently and Gay is the god father to Lowry's son. Wow, didnt know that

But we don't really know them.

This is new ownership... they've only been in charge for a few months.

Either way I'm torn on this trade. Positives and negatives you can take from it. I only hope BC sees this as the start of a re-tool and he's thought about the possibilities after this one.

everyone is bigging up ed davis like he's the next c-webb or something. He is a good offensive player with potential to be a solid 3rd option playing 25-30 minutes a night. His post D is crap... just look at how GSW abused us in the last game. This is clearly a "sell high" situation.

rudy gay allows this team to be more potent offensively, while being an improvement on D. The PG situation is finally settled and for the first time in his career Lowry finally has control of the position. Rudy may make 19 million, but we know no notable free agent was signing with a losing squad. BC has been able to get rid of contracts before (Hedo and Kapono) and I expect him to clear out any excess salary either this year or in the summer (Fields, Kleiza, maybe Bargnani). A core of Gay+Lowry+Val+DD is young and talented.

I think we should try working out a deal around DD and Milsap and then we're talking...

Lowry/Lucas
Ross/Anderson
Gay/Fields
Milsap/Bargnani
Val/Amir

Only position that would need to be upgraded over the next few years would be backup PG as long as these players meet their realistic expectations.

TBH I don't really have a problem with the trade seeing we only shipped out jose and davis. however this leaves a hole at the 4 spot until val is back, hamdi is a decent defensive C that gets on the boards and is cheap.

hopefully the change of scenery will help rudy get back to his old ways and maybe, just maybe, this trade will work (doubt it because none of BC's moves have ever worked out and i don't like a back court of DD and rudy).

Lowry plays out of control and is injury prone, he's a head case and no matter how much talent he has he'll never help the Team win. Colangelo leaves Raps with some thing to remember him for.

He's a head case? Wot?

And it's obvious that we need a backup PG. Still a solid trade. More work has to be done though clearly.

Pretty pissed about losing Davis.

Looking at the positives though, Gay and Lowry are good friends so that's a bonus. Gay also seems to play well at the ACC but that might just be a product of playing against the Raptors.

Bring back Calderon in the off-season for less money. It's a win-win for everyone.

Bargs will be traded for a better 4. Pau Gasol will be a Raptor by the trade deadline.
