Sounds like the perfect player to pay $9.5M a year and sacrifice having an effective captain for.

I agree, but it is what it is, at this point, and moving him will be difficult.

So he stays, and we readjust our expectations.

WOW,

Just saw a clip on the Luongo trade, and thought the hat he was wearing said 'Capitals' for a second, there. Oh well.

I think 25-30 if management doesn't do anything to help him break out of it and he doesn't on his own, 35-45 if they help him/he does.

I'm withholding judgment until he has one playoffs where he doesn't show up though. That's what it's really about.

He still has yet to be traded.

I don't know where his jersey ranks now as far as popularity, but it probably is still in the top 10 if not top 5. Ted's a businessman first and always will be.

The one way out of this for the Caps is that Ovie pulls a Kuznetsov and opts to remain in Russia with his new bride. I know there's ramifications contractually for that between the NHL and the KHL, but if Ovie continues to perform like he has these first few games, would the Caps be upset in releasing him from his contract. The Caps orgnization saves face and money. It was his decision, he was unhappy and homesick.
Is that even allowed from a CBA perspective even if Ovechkin wanted to tear up his NHL deal and go home to live and play there?

I don't see any way Ovechkin from a financial perspective would throw away that gauranteed $$.

I could actually see them getting Iginla and shipping MoJo.

Who knows how much he has left though.

That's the thing. That's not a proposal, just an insult of Feaster. It sounds all well and good to ramble on about trading the guy without actually considering any feasible deals. When the rubber meets the road though, I doubt there are any realistic trades that even the most fed-up Caps fans would be willing to entertain.

Ovechkin. Limited skill set. Okay.

People do realize before last season he averaged about 50 assists? Or are you guys really just Penguins fans that believe Ovechkin got assists off rebounds from his shots?

There's only so many assists a guy can get when his line mates have no finish, or in Backstroms case just doesn't want to even try.

She lives in Moscow right? At least from what I've read. At 26 what's she got left, a handful of years tops?

His playmaking assists (as opposed to rebounds/deflections/scrambles created as a result of him throwing off the defense and capitalized on) are generally the result of him breaking the defense wide open on the rush and throwing passes across for tap ins. He's obviously a good passer but he doesn't thread no look passes through 3 guys or anything like that.

As far as limited skillset,

-crap backhand
-choppy/ineffective skating
-crap backwards skating
-one deke/one power move

When he's on he obviously makes the best of what he's good at and then some but when he's not it all comes to the forefront. Problem is the rush down the wing/toedrag/snipe can literally only be done when you're on and going balls to the wall.

I don't think Calgary was ever gonna trade him before.

But now, with his contract expiring and them being pretty bad, I could see it.

Even if he gives you 30-30-60 type numbers, the influence he could have on Ovy in terms of showing a proper work ethic, preparation, and providing some experienced leadership could be invaluable.

You know better than that.

Holmgren will likely nab him in a few weeks, and George will have never even given it consideration.

If it's any consolation, the team very well may take away the opportunity to consider it by sucking.

Is this the same Iginla that hasn't played a power forward game for half a decade now and takes weeks off at a time?

I'm sure his canadianness will just rub off on Ovy and solve everything tho.

Even if they don't I'm not sure they have the expendable assets for such a rental.

Forsberg and a 1st is a small small price to pay to get Iginla to rub his magical canadian lotion on Ovy and make him super awesome again.

I would probably stop watching if they traded Forsberg for anyone over the age of 28.

Hopefully we're not being serious.

Because this team is just an Iginla away from the SC.

I really wish he played in this division. Then maybe all the iggy cultists would see that he's just another Lecavalier.
