Bob McKenzie's mid-season rankings

Quote:
BOB MCKENZIE’S NHL DRAFT PROSPECT RANKINGS also features a live intermission interview with top prospect Seth Jones, a defenceman with the Portland Winterhawks who are facing off against the Kamloops Blazers on Wednesday. Jones was ranked No. 2 in McKenzie’s pre-season draft rankings back in September and has racked up nine goals and 25 assists this season in the Western Hockey League. Jones won a gold medal as a member of Team USA at the 2013 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

The 30-minute live special also includes a feature on Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads, who played for Team Canada at the 2013 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP and is averaging two points per game in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season.
Show is tonight at 10:30 EST, 7:30 PST.

Will any channels other than TSN be running a replay?

At least with their recent ranking shows, TSN will probably have it up and streaming relatively quickly after its aired on TV.

Does McKenzie actually watch/scout these kids? Im sure he had time over the lockout but he seems like a busy guy...I dont get how he has the time to watch them like a professional scout.

I believe he gets 10 scouts to give their rankings. It's not actually his personal rankings.

He polls NHL scouts, and puts his name on the ranking.

To add to this list:
Darnell Nurse - Son of former CFLer Richard Nurse, Nephew of former NFLer Donovan McNabb
Kerby Rychel - Son of former NHLer Warren Rychel
Anthony Mantha - Grandson of former NHLer Andre Pronovost
Justin Bailey - Son of former NFLer Carlton Bailey

I detailed these and a few more earlier this month in an article about the Top Prospects Game

I'm not sure that it was your intention, but this makes it sound a little like he's trying to pass the rankings off as his own. Just so there's no confusion:

Possible surprise pick - Frederick Gauthier

Bet he puts Drouin ahead of Mackinnon and says the team at 2 will love his creativity too much to let him pass them - adding that size wont be a factor because he is still growing.

Mackenzie will give people something to talk about.

1. Seth Jones 7 Scouts #1
2. Nathan Mackinnon 3 Scouts #1
3. Jonathan Drouin
4. Alex Barkov
5. Elias Lindholm
6. Sean Monahan
7. Rasmus Ristolainen
8. Hunter Shinkaruk
9. Nikita Zadarov
10. Valeri Nichushkin

That was his top 10.

He said 2 scouts who picked Jones had Drouin #2, and one of them had Barkov #2. All who picked MacKinnon #1 had Jonese #2 I think I he said.

Barkov write up by Button is interesting:

Quote:
Aleksander is mature beyond his years with a quiet confidence in his game. He has uncanny awareness and is a player who is capable of sizing up the play two and three steps ahead and can therefore do things at a very high pace and tempo. He possesses great hands, and he makes every kind of pass to create scoring chances. A very good skater who can create time and space for himself in the offensive zone. He is a dangerous offensive player who plays with determination and has a 'go about his business approach.' Has the potential to be a top number 1 center.
People around here seem to believe he is mediocre skating wise. Not sure if he's improved and people are just still stuck on it. Tend to side with an actual scout vs people on the internet.
