Definition of legit NHL D-man, one that can play in the league and look solid doing it.

Ottawa had 5 legit D playing tonight and one that needs time to develop a minimum set of puck skills.

Love Kooly. He's one of the few hockey guys who's maybe too positive haha. Love his enthusiasm though. Been a fan since he was on The Score.

You guys are right, he hasn't been bad. But I certainly haven't been wowed by him, and in no way should he be the long term solution as Karlsson's partner
He's been everything we could/should have expected of him, and he's done a great job of that.

OK... so you guys agree: #4 D and (definitely) worse than Prime Phillips.

He's nothing special and considering how lost he is in the offensive zone, he isn't an upgrade over Kuba last year...

Defensively he sure as hell is. And that's what he's here to do.

From what I've seen, Methot is absolutely an upgrade on Kuba from last year. This one might make up for the Pascal fiasco.

Agree, and if he plays good, this will give him a shot that he deserves (but I didn't think he would get) to try winger (when Spezza is back). Regin and Lats stock is dropping fast, and that means a spot could be opening.

All the forwards were fine, the biggest problem the Sens had was Boro fumbling and giving away the puck.

Karlsson-pylon > NHL

That said, Methot has been solid. Thatís all required off of him.

I think Methot is a great 2nd pairing defenceman, who can play 1st pairing if need be (and at the moment, we need him there due to a lack of other options).

Which is exactly what I thought he'd be when we got him. He's exactly what we needed, especially considering how defensively inept we were at times last year. We needed a stay-at-home guy, and Methot is one of the few guys out there who could do that and also skate in Maclean's high-tempo system (most stay-at-home guys tend to also be questionable and/or slow skaters, not a great fit with Maclean at the moment).

Was Chril Neil good to? Just passing it by MAK since watching him play does not agree with advanced statistics. Watching him play makes you conclude he 110% belongs.

Because some people acted like he was a bottom pairing D who would be incapable of playing an effective 20 minutes of hockey a night, that we had been hosed by trading Foligno for him, and that we should have kept Kuba because Methot is a massive downgrade.

So far, Methot is proving those people wrong.

I wonder how Cowen's development will go under Maclean's system. Hopefully he learns to build in an extra gear.

guilty

OK, but if he wasn't playing with the best player in the world, would he still look effective playing 20 min a night? Maybe not so much. Karlsson has a huge impact on him looking so good. Not much defensding needs to be done out there.

But I was wrong. He's better than 3rd pair. I like him as a #4.

Also to the other people^, Kuba has a better shot, and is just a better decision maker. The Sens would score more goals if Kuba was here instead of Methot. That's obviously a positive contribution as well.

I would take Regin out, call up Dacosta and replace Latendresse with Daugavins.

Daugavins- DaCosta- Silfverberg

Can Dacosta be really as bad as Regin has been this season, the play dies soon as the puck hits his stick, hes not hurting the team but hes also not helping when 2nd line needs to score too.

Thats if Spezza cant go this weekend.
Latendresse played his best game tonight, he was physical and skating better.

Regin also got more involved, until tonight he avoided contact, tonight he was initiating it.

Good signs from both of them.

Regin and Latendresse haven't played much hockey in the past two years, it is going to take some time.

Well it seems you are still wrong!

Methot is playing extremely well, he is #2 in Ottawa ATM.

Prime Phillips > Methot. offensively and defensively
Yes the number 1 overall pick was, in his prime, better than Methot.

Cowen better than Methot on defense, Karlsson better than Methot on defense, Methot worse than a prime and premeire defensive dman Phillips, Methot not "wowing", Methot worse offensively than our 2008/2009 offensive dman Kuba,

Gonchar is Ottawa's #2 right now. Methot is playing great but Gonch is getting it done on the PK, PP and at EV. Very underrated player for us right meow.

Wow is this Mandy person always so out to lunch? Trade Spezza and Anderson. Methot isn't good. Etc. etc.

Methot has been a rock and has been absolutely flawless in his time in Ottawa so far. He's broken up rushes, and he's made some nice breakout passes too. I'm more impressed with the way that he is keeping the puck away from the other team than his defensive endeavours. So far Methot has been awesome defintely a top 3 guy.
