Didn't say they were entitled to it. But it's about time we hosted it again.

England should have hosted 2 world cups before Russia gets to host its first.

Over two years old I think...

With two world cups being awarded at the same time, you just knew something fishy (even by the usual FIFA standards) was going to happen with vote trading.

I agree, and that's mostly down to the racism aspect. But in terms of stadia and organization, it will be good.

Re: Qatar, I'm bitter over that. It should have been ours or Australia's.

didn't FIFA have their own "assessment" team that went to each bidding nation assessing everything and Qatar had the worst ratings? I mean they aren't even hiding it anymore, it is so blatantly obvious...but yet again, c'est la vie, we live in a world ruled by money , it's no surprise

If it really was about racism then FIFA should just not have an UEFA host at all since even England has plenty of problems keeping racist fans from her majesty's stadiums.

I'm sure the no jail time community service sentences handed out in the UK for racist physical assaults are really going to scare away racist fans away.

Racism is a much bigger problem in Russia than anywhere else in Europe, as in its an actual social issue rather than cherry picking isolated events which could be done for just about any country probably

Yeah it's not a social issue at all when a repeat offender in a large urban area can perpetuate a racially motivated physically assault and receive no jail time, and that these types of incidents are common enough that people expect it to happen. Good thing none of the host cities would have been in large urban areas.

That's like saying that because there was a shooting in Liechtenstein there's a comparable issue there about gun violence/control as there's in the US...great logic...not

Read that thread. Racism in England definitely goes deeper than just "isolated" incidents that go relatively unpunished.

Just to help back up that claim:

But can you imagine the West Ham supporters actually coming out with a statement like that?

Didn't think about that, and the host auto-qualifies.

Maybe they'll beat South Africa and the US in the worst host performance sweepstakes?

Racism in England is nowhere near as bad as you think it is. Yes, there's isolated incidents but there are also pockets of people who are racist. But it's a lot worse in Russia and it's a lot more in the open.

England hasn't hosted a world cup in nearly 50 years and for the home of football that's too long. Not saying that we're entitled but I see our bid as being better as Russia's. I can understand why they gave it to them though to grow the game.
