I don't really like seeing Blues threads on the main boards anyway. The vast majority of fans know very little about our players or how we play outside of stat lines, box scores and Hitchcock folklore.

Taransenko weaknesses?

Okay, have watched him play all of the games this season. Rookie in NHL, but I am not seeing any major mistakes in his play so far. Good offensive player, but backchecks effectively and doesn't make normal rookie mistakes. Someone tell me if they are seeing any weakness in his game. Oops, sorry if I misspelled his name.

I saw a couple times in the Bluejackets game where he wasn't in the correct position for the breakout, and he had a couple times he was responsible for the puck getting turned over (not sure whether he was charged with the giveaway). Basically, the type of things I'd expect from a young player with a bit of a language issue. I expect him to play right through that stuff and continue learning. Too bad he couldn't harness that sweet pass from Steen for a 2nd goal last night.

If he can put up 27 points in the remaining 41 gamed, he'll be at a 60 point pace over 82. With the way he's playing in this shortened season, I wouldn't be surprised if he scored at a 70 point pace...He would need 32 more points to finish the season...It's possible.

Would be more possible if either Steen or McDonald could hit the net.
Hope one of them get going soon.

McDonald was never a great finisher even though a great passer. Steen is the guy who needs to be off that line. I appreciate the attempt, but Steen is a stopgap center solution. The Blues need a more natural passing center on Tarasenko's line. Backes, Steen and Berglund really aren't that. Backes is probably the best playmaker of that trio. A natural playmaking center would definitely unlock a bit more production out of Tarasenko, who is so dangerous even with not much ice space in the offensive zone.

Do you think that would leave the Schwartz / Steen / Stewart line too weak?

Perhaps, but Ive really liked Steen at center, and Stewart has played well this year. And come on, there are some teams in the league that would take that as their second line right now. Maybe even do a Sob-Steen-Stewart third line, that would be pretty nasty. You wonder if Schwartz wont get sent to Peoria soon if he doesnt start producing and we stay healthy.

I think Schwartz has played fine. He's not being over exposed or manhandled at all. He helped set up the game winner the other night with a great pass. He is a really smart player and sees the ice well.

I like what Steen has done. The Blues do not have a play making center on the roster or in the organization. Where are we going to get a Crosby? Be realistic.

I think the Blues are too intent on rotating their lineup to stay fresh, so they'll probably only send Schwartz down if something changes - not if things continue as-is. Plus, Hitchcock knows points are relative to responsibility. Check out Oshie - not a single even-strength point. David Backes has just one. If Schwartz got powerplay time, he'd "produce."

Plus, Schwartz set up Berglund's breakaway that become the penalty shot. And Schwartz has definitely set up other good plays that simply weren't finished. The one he did get a point for was Pietro's tying goal in Nashville.

So, Schwartz has certainly been the least productive of the top-9, but that's expected from a rookie. He's still played well - surprisingly well defensively. He just needs more games to increase his experience, confidence, and gel with his linemates, as pretty much all rookies do.
The difference, however, is that in a shortened season, games can be at a premium. The result could be that teams start making significant moves in about a month, instead of two months at the deadline, so they can contend in what will definitely be compressed standings. So, the Blues might only have 10-15 games in which to decide to replace him in the top 9.

Shot, but his passing can be slick too.

Tarasenko has been:

A) Better that I thought
B) Worse than I thought
C) About what I thought
