Lots of debate on the Sabres board that Ruff's time in Buffalo has run it's course. Lots of people hold him in high regard as a coach (I'm not one of them) and say he'd be picked up in a heartbeat by another team (I don't doubt that).
I think he is a great coach and deserves to be listed as one of the best, even though he didn't win a cup, I think he needs to move on from Buffalo though, would easily be able to pick up another job in a lot of places.
I think he's good coach (you don't coach a team for over decade if you're awful). But I think it might be best for a new face behind the bench soon. And yes he would probably wouldn't be jobless for that long after.
I think he is a fantastic coach. He's done a lot of great things with a sometimes weak Buffalo Sabres roster similar to what Barry Trotz does in Nashville.
I was hoping a few years back when the Panthers hired Dineen that they would maybe somehow be able to pull Ruff away from Buffalo.
Is it just me or is he possible the whiniest coach in the NHL? seems like every time the camera's on him, he's whining to the refs. As far as his actual coaching, I think he's been so long-lived based on who he's had in net. Hasek and Miller can certainly make you look better than you may be. His firing is well past due, at some point, players stop listening. Good coach IMO though.

Funny, we all wish we still had Dineen to replace him with.
He was very good for a long time, but for one reason or another, he seems to have become less effective. Certainly, the Sabres' lineup is part of the problem, so he could be a better fit somewhere else, but that's probably not the only issue. If he got fired, he would find work as soon as he wanted it, no doubt in my mind. As a head coach? Not sure, at least right away, but someone would gladly add him to their staff.
to me he seems like a fantastic teacher , his teams are always as prepared as they can possibly be and his teams work their tails off..
in game and in practice
downside, he works them too hard imho in his practices and they wear out collectively as a squad later in the season and into the playoffs they don't have the necessary gas in the tank

How do other fanbases view him as a coach?
I see him as Buffalo's Pat Quinn. He will be run out of town, and then you'll look back on his time and wonder why they let him go.
